Correct.

However, there are some ppl that remain so afraid of defending themselves, that they won't arm themselves. That's difficult to fathom why though....

There are some people who know their limits, just as there are others that don't.

muggers.... with an 's'

they can have .25 cal pea shooters, but if there's 3 or 4 of them, even a Desert Eagle won't help you.

Fortunately there are still a lot of people who aren't so afraid of their own shadow that they feel the need to gear up like Yosemite Sam to bring in the morning newspaper.

Agreed. Though if I were in Detroit, I'd consider gearing up as Yosemite Sam. Or perhaps avoiding certain districts entirely.

However ... even if I were "geared up", unless I had the pistol out and at the ready all of the time, what would stop a mugger from pulling a gun on me first, stealing everything I have on my including my gun, then shooting me? If someone is pointing a gun at my head, it seems rather late to try to dig out my own weapon.

Unfortunatly armed citizens also enable crime as well. Technically if you defend yourself you can also land up in one expensive legal mess is a possibility..

Any form of gun control other than a very severe one would not work anyways. Besides the cultural thing there are just far too many guns out there already. Given that any time a percentage. Even if only a small percentage of a population is unstable. Guns in a society are a real risk and will continue to be so I believe.

Again for a percentage of them the extension of power a gun gives in their mind is a real issue. It is just too easy to use one as an extension of power in the wrong hands. It does not really matter if the majority of gun owners are responsible. That is not the issue. Like many things in life a few rotten apples spoil it for all.

You only need to drop one, the others soon run.
