SNOW #$%&!!!

I must be getting old and grouchy. Not too many years ago I loved winter time. Now I can't stand it, especially SNOW!!! What a pain in the a$$!!! I don't have a snowmobile and I don't ski, or snowboard. In other words, I've got no use for the stuff. Digging, scraping, salting, etc......who needs it? Just walking the dogs is a major PIA. I'm not gonna' get into the job. That's a whole 'nother rant. I feel better now. Thanks

I'm thinking about maybe moving South in a few years. Georgia, or maybe Florida might work. North Carolina......??? Anyone???

spdrun 01-21-2014 06:22 PM

Condos good. Pay a few hundo a month for outside maintenance and to have someone shovel the snow for you.

Or just buy a house close to the street with not much walkway area to shovel. I have a set of cross-country skis and ain't afraid to use 'em -- if we really get a foot, Central Park will be pretty damn close to heaven early tomorrow morning.

TMAllison 01-21-2014 06:27 PM

Got my fill of winter living in Michigan as a kid. 4 yrs of 5 month long winter was plenty.

Here in the SF Bay Area, you can surf in the morning and after a 3 hour drive, ski in the afternoon if you wish. Hard to beat if you like the outdoors.

Is uncommonly warm for the last week or two. Is 75F right now. We haven't had any rain yet this winter which we will pay for next summer.

Hatterasguy 01-21-2014 06:39 PM

Eventually I'm going somewhere warm from Jan-March. Winter is only fun in small doses.

When I'm chiseling my ice-entombed car out of the white $hit at 6AM tomorrow morning in <10F weather I will re-read your post to help me warm up. Thanks. ;)

I hate snow. Today I had to cover for 2 of my coworkers who left around 11 am. Neither of them made it home until around 4, normally a 20 minute commute. I am so done with it, the people who drive in it, shoveling, the cold, heating bills, dry skin, everything.

The sooner you move, the better off you'll be. I got the h#ll out of that Winter mess when 22 yrs. old. I don't miss it at all. Some die before making it happen for themselves. Don't be that guy...

t walgamuth 01-22-2014 12:05 AM

Oh I don't mind the snow...but we are heading south for a brief respite in a week or so and I am looking forward to that!

cmbdiesel 01-22-2014 12:41 AM

Bring it on!

Until it's a foot deep, it isn't snow.

Didn't realize that Jersey got snow....
It's bad enough trying to get snow up here in the CT banana belt...

There is about 14 inches covering my neighborhood in Delaware. I am not looking forward to going out to shovel in 5* temps either. I miss Florida...

JB3 01-22-2014 10:04 AM

listen to you guys! the Canadians are laughing at us as they snowmobile around half naked in 30 below!

I have no problem with snow, but I also love winter sports and the change in seasons, so i have a reason to constantly head north and enjoy these features of winter.

IMO nothing is as boring as living some place with no seasonal shift. Plus its only a couple months, spring is only that far away already.

I bet you guys complaining about snow are the same ones who hate sweltering in the heat during the summer. :D

We only got about 3-5 inches down the shore here. Beach erosion a bigger problem. :(

E150GT 01-22-2014 10:50 AM

Its freaking cold here today. There was a small layer of ice on my car this morning. Currently it's 52 degrees F. I aint going outside

tbomachines 01-22-2014 10:51 AM

Just got over 14 inches of snow here (and to think Monday they were saying 1-3 inches...).

METLIFE STADIUM

Super Bowl's in 11 days. Can you imagine if .....................:P:eek:

Snow accumulates on the parking lot of MetLife Stadium as crews prepare the facility during a snow storm, Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in East Rutherford, N.J. Super Bowl XLVIII, held Feb. 2, will be the first NFL football title game held outdoors in a city where it snows.

Storm buries Northeast; 16 inches of snow in NJ

barry12345 01-22-2014 12:33 PM

When you do not have to go out a few days of the worst of winter pass by easily. Since I am older and retired allows me a lot of choice for a given day.

Right now it is snowing heavily and will for the remainder of the day and following night. Perhaps a foot of total accumulation.

I hate football -- hope the StuporBowl does get snowed out of the area :)

I'm thinking Cayman or the Key's in the winter, with a house in NH for when I want to freeze and a boat/condo in CT because CT is nice for a part of the year. Plus I can register all my vehicles in NH or Cayman and not pay taxes on them!

GOOD! Sick of football mania already. Hope they never, ever, ever hold another Superbowl in my city.

Still remember a few years ago when Dallas hosted. 60+ temps every weekend up until a few days before Super Bowl weekend...then major sleet storm and temps below 27 the rest of the week...no chance of anything thawing...in a metroplex ill-equipped to deal with snow or ice removal.

Everyone shut in for days. Rolling brownouts throughout the day to ease the power demands.

I though God loved the Cowboys? Or he was mad about them not making it to the dance?

So, what's the deal now? SB goes to the latest "new stadium" for a visit, regardless of climate (read fan) considerations? Is the new stadium in Minnesota going to be domed or open air when it's finished in 2016?

I think Denver's chances are directly related to the weather. The better the weather, the better their chances. The worse the weather, the less I like their chances....especially if it is cold and windy.

You would have had a hell of a time holding the Super Bowl on a day like yesteday in NJ , I'll tell ya.

I thought he was going to jump out of his box & try to fly when Romo was picked in the Eagles game. :P:cool:

Dude, why ya' gotta be a hater? Does the Superbowl being hosted in NJ have a negative impact on you? Too much negativity is bad for you. Stop and smell the roses once in a while. BTW, Giants Stadium (I'm never gonna call it MetLife) is in NJ, not your "city". :)

The Superbowl is, arguably, the premium sporting event on the planet. Being held in the biggest media market in the country makes sense. It's also a shot in the arm for the local economy. I'm about twenty minutes from the Stadium and I can tell you that the local business owners are lovin' it.

One ironic tidbit. Eli won his second Superbowl at Peyton's home field. Now Peyton will try to win his second Superbowl at Eli's home field. What a coincidence. Go Denver!

Because Broadway from 33rd to 47th is being turned into Stupidbowl Blvd, closed for 5+ days. Since I primarily work in midtown, this will be a traffic/touron disaster and I do NOT look forward to this unholy mess. Not to mention that the NY Pig Department is clamping down on suckurinety in a massive way, inconveniencing anyone who actually lives and works in NYC.

Screw the NFL. Screw the garbage in City Council and ex-mayor Bloomy's office who decided to rent a portion of the city to those pieces of corporate NASCAR trash.

The NYC extravaganza should be held in a park or confined to Times Square, not shoved smack in the middle of one of the busiest commercial districts in the US. Holding the damn thing on Ward's Island would also be a good option. Doing a snow dance for February 2nd and hoping that the temperature at kickoff time is 10 degrees (F). Watching a bunch of steroid-addled practitioners of homoerotic tackling freezing their nipples off should be amusing -- hope a few end up with frostbite.

Premier sporting event? Puh-leeeeze. Only from a Dumberican redneck perspective. World cup? US Open? Olympics? World series? As to what I'll be doing on Superbowl weekend -- I'm going skiing up north with some friends. Participating in some REAL sport, as it were.

.......

Yeah, I agree, mostly. Denver is a passing team so the wind can have an impact. Check out the YouTube clips of the Giants vs. Redskins NFC Championship game in January, 1987. I was there and I can tell you that the wind that day was absolutely brutal!!! Washington QB Jay Schroeder couldn't complete a pass to save his life. NYG QB Phil Simms did fine since he was used to playing in conditions like that. Same deal for the punters. NYG punter Sean Landeta blasted his punts while the Skins' punter barely got the ball in the air.

Cold weather isn't really a problem for the players or the fans. I've been to several December games at the Meadowlands. Just dress right and you're good to go. The Giants vs. Packers NFC Championship game in Green Bay in January, 2008 is proof of this. Single digit temps at kick-off, near 0F at the end. It was one of the best games I've ever seen.

Why Real Fans Can't Go To The Super Bowl | Business Insider

Thanks for the link. Interesting story. Jim Nantz is one of the more well-respected broadcasters in sports, but I'm surprised he didn't know that the same "late-breaking news" has been covered by so many others. I remember when Howard Cosell said essentially the same thing in the early 70's!!!

What's the problem with Superbowl Boulevard? NYC has similar street fairs/events on the major Avenues and cross-streets from April thru November. The only difference is that this one is taking place during part of the work week, and why not? Broadway, between Herald and Times Square is the quintessential NYC experience for many tourists. Why not celebrate a globally viewed event in a venue visited by people from all over the globe?

Street fairs:
(1) do not occur during the work week
(2) do not last 5 days (actually more like 10 or 12 including setup)
(3) do not come with intrusive levels of security -- you don't need to get a (granted, free) ticket on some NFL site just to cross the damn street

Check the TV ratings. ;)

Skippy 01-23-2014 06:30 AM

American football is okay, but if you want the premier sporting event, it's the F1 Grand Prix of Monaco. The sound, the speed, the absolute lack of runoff area:

F1 Onboard Monaco Ayrton Senna - YouTube
F1 Monaco GP 2004, Michael Schumacher onboard lap - YouTube
F1 Monaco 2013 pole onboard - YouTube

See what I mean?

Now back to the OT. I grew up in Georgia, where we didn't have a winter worth speaking of, and summer ran about six months long generally. That got real old real fast. Now I live in a place where we have just enough of a winter to make you appreciate summer, and just enough of a summer to appreciate winter. Spring and fall are simply fantastic. But don't move here. There are no jobs, and no good Indian or Chinese food.

MS Fowler 01-23-2014 07:20 AM

I like American Football AND F1. No NASCAR.

Rafi 01-24-2014 01:57 PM

Someone stole my ergonomic snow shovel. I go out to do some shoveling and it is gone. I had it set in front of my door for easy access.
