Ferrari Sales Down in 2013

Lamborghini reported 2,121 sales worldwide in 2013, Rolls-Royce moved 3,630 units, Bentley sold 10,120, Aston Martin about 4,200 and Maserati 15,400. But with other luxury marques enjoying strong sales, Ferrari sold 6,922 cars worldwide in 2013, about 5 percent fewer than in 2012.

They did state they want to keep their volume down around 7000 cars per year.

You see, Ferrari feels that just because you want a Ferrari and you have the money to buy one doesn't mean you should be able to get one. Its cars are very rare and Ferrari likes it that way. The goal is to sell no more than about 7,000 cars a year, worldwide.
I've noted that anyone with $30,000 and a financial death wish can pick up a 308 or a Mondial at will.

And is it just me, or was the Rolls-Royce on the second page the ugliest car in the history of cars?

Not just you, I've never understood or been a fan of that front end treatment. That's the main reason I haven't bought one from that generation yet!

If you run out of driveway space, feel free to send a couple up here. I'll drive them for you so that they don't just sit.

Never was taken with the 308 line. The owner of a big house I woked on for 2 1/2 years, a surgeon/inventor with 68 patents, and the most amiable wealthy client I ever worked for told me once that every friend of his who'd bought a Ferrari regretted it. Would be interesting to know what models they had.

I gather that on some of the mid-engine models, the engine has to be pulled for many maintenance procedures.

And yeah, that Rolls is not appealing. What were they thinking? Some of the Bentleys are pretty nice.

Interesting. I had no idea these .com sold so few vehicles. I guess Ferrari has become the "commoner's" choice and many are going to more obscure brands this year. A friend used to lease MB, then she leased Audi, and her latest is Jag. She wants new and different and not MOTS. The ever changing thing is part of her personality. So it goes for some...

It is just the way of the world. There was a time when if you wanted something like a Ferrari you could buy a Ferrari or you could buy the other type of Ferrari except that there was no other type. Nothing was in the same class that offered everything in one package.

But that is no longer the case, and a new breed of customer is out there that wants their cars to work all the time and they do not want to need to skip a house payment each time their car needs a new timing belt.

I blame Acura for the NSX which changed everything. You could have your fun and it was there when you wanted it, not when it decided to work.

There is also the issue of creature comfort. The last Ferrari I crammed myself into was a 308 and that did it for me. I think it also did it for a lot of others.

But if Ferrari is selling everything it is building then I don't expect them to change anything. Why should they?

Ferrari said they wanted to decrease their new car sales. You still can't buy a new F car, the order times are years.

They want to keep them around 7k +/- a few.

They're not going to listen to me, but I'd really like to see them revive this model. Sort of a New Beetle treatment. Much more approachable car to drive in city traffic than the mid-engined Le Mans look-alike varieties. And way cool IMO.

6 2-barrel carburetors do not make it a Manhattanites wet dream.

Well duh. I meant a return with styling and layout similar but with modern fuel injection and computer.

In the past there were not that many competitors to Ferrari, now you can get a Mercedes SLS, Audi R8, Nissan GTR, Porsche GT3, Viper, Corvette for the same price or less than Ferrari's entry level California.

They do its called the F12. Ferrari is a cutting edge technology company, they don't do retro.

I think that the profile would be fairly easy to mimic, but I cannot imagine a way to duplicate those front and back ends with those delicate chrome bumper blades. Pretty car, though.
