PAX: People abandoning their cars - why?

They just announced that some people caught in gridlock due to the PAX snow storm are abandoning their cars. Why would someone simply get out of their own car and walk away? What are the other drivers supposed do about the many abandoned cars creating even more gridlock? Call a tow truck?

ARE PEOPLE CRAZY NUTS OR WHAT?

Out of gas due to idling?
Not moving for hours upon hours and really needs to take a leak, but doesn't have the proper equipment for doing so in the field?
Can't proceed due to lack of proper tires?

This storm has been predicted for days. Anyone who abandons their car or gets in an accident with improper tires or no chains should have their vehicle impounded, subject to a $2000 fee for returning it.

If it was a Dodge Caliber or a Kia Rio I wouldn't blame anybody from walking away from the car.

Any time or any place.

Tired of waiting around so I'm going to walk away.

Not their problem, is it?

More of "I don't give a rats ass about you as long as I get mine". Standard fare for people

Less than 3 inches of snow crippled the region a couple weeks ago. That debacle suggests to me that stupid might be the best word, but I don't know. It might be both.

Your idea has merit. Perhaps they figure if they have a car that is a real piece of garbage, the easiest way to ditch it is in the middle of traffic. Perhaps as auto makers continue to down grade their offerings, we will see more abandoned cars...........gives a new meaning to the term "walk away lease".

Then those without a car due to finances can pick up a ride for cheap...........as in FREE!!!!!!

As a courtesy you should leave your keys behind when you walk.

If there was almost no chance that conditions would allow driving I could see going for food, rest stop and some fuel, then get back.

A few weeks ago they were showing people in the Atlanta area who got out of their cars and hiked over four miles to work! They left their cars stuck in traffic. To me, at least, it seems that a thinking man or woman would check out the weather conditions via radio or television and upon noting that conditions were as bad as they were, call work and tell them they will be working from home today..........

Although, I've heard about employers who tell their employees either you get your a** into work or you don't have a job. Seems to me those employers care not for the health, safety and welfare of their employees..........you get in an accident while driving in white out, ice road conditions, oh well, we'll simply hire another resource unit.......

How long are ppl supposed to stay with their car's? Days, a week? It doesn't make sense to stay with them when your personal well-being is at stake.

True, though what I am saying is why get out in dangerous conditions when you can simply avoid ALL OF IT by staying home and off the roads......

OTH, staying home and off the roads may be too easy.........

How boring. *YAWN*

We're supposed to get another 6"-10" tonight -- who needs to trek up to Lake Arrowhead when you'll be able to cross-county ski in Central Park tomorrow evening?

Lake Arrowhead?!?! What like poor people?

The more important question is, who needs to go cross country skiing when you can go surfing year round?
