I don't buy that BS, not for one minute.

You wouldn't treat a dog that way, or even a goldfish, so his standard of care falls well below how to care for a child.

He's a sick individual, period. No amount of psychobabble can explain or excuse his abuse of that poor kid, but his attorneys will argue it because that's their job. At this point their only option is to argue for some sympathy, because it might keep their client off death row.

the whole is very disturbing to me (and all of you I am sure) and makes me wish i had a time machine to rescue this kid.
the last thing the prosecutor said in his opening remark to the jury was......"after you see the evidence and this is all over, you will never be the same again....any of you". He got that one right.

Seeing how it has worked in the past, I would say it is the smart card to play, not to mention, probably the only one left. Seeing as how gullible we are to psychobabble, I would hazard a guess to say he probably would get enough sympathy to keep him off death row.

In states where the DP is a potential, they march in every witness and trot out every argument they can to ply the jury for sympathy. Heck, in Missouri the attorneys for a guy on death row have even complained that the state hasn't told him which pharmacy they're using to get the drugs, and the underlying reason is so they can sue them into scaring off of supplying them. It's quite a racket for those vehemently opposed to the DP.

To me, if you're going to allow the DP, then you abbreviate those kinds of specious attacks. Let the lawyers argue about what a rough childhood the guy had or whatever, but if he's convicted and sentenced to death, you just have the ordinary appeals, etc. In fact I'd support protective legislation for the pharmacy suppliers of the chemicals used, just like in the olden days of the firing squad, the criminal had no right to know who was holding the rifles.

I suppose that's one more argument in favor of doing away with the DP, it will end those kinds of arguments, and it would put a lot of weasly attorneys out of a job, so maybe I'll change my mind about it.

I think Hats proposal is best. Ten days of fire ants would do the job.

It happened in a good conservative state, I have no idea how the defense attorney's are going to get any sympathy out of the jury. There going to rule to execute him.

I like the fire ants, much cheaper and more fair to the poor little child.

Too sick a situation for me even to comment much on. I never buy the poor childhood excuse as that indicates it is rare. The reality is poor childhoods are not.

Actually some of the worse atrocities have been commited by well to do families offspring. . We develop instincts and charactaristics good and bad. But this type of thing is way over the top.

The only thing is to keep this type of animal out of circulation one way or another. He has both no conscience and no normal emotions. He may not be able to on those grounds to equate to any form of punishment.

The attorney has a job. To mount as much of a defense as possible. I don't blame them for doing their duty. I blame the 12 guys who swallow psychobabble.

You want to put them out of a job? Pretty simple. Unset the precedence. Don't listen to the BS.
