Echo-cardiogram

I went to the cardiologist today for an echo-cardiogram. The doctor prepared the machine and began the process of taking a sonogram of my heart.

"Huh," he said. "That's weird."

I stared at him with an expression of curiosity and growing concern. "What?"

"You said you're a law student, right?" the doctor asked.

"Yes," I replied, confused.

The doctor exclaimed, "Well, there's actually a heart in here! Want me to take a picture for you so you can prove it to people once you're an attorney?"

.

I thought this was serious until I got to the "law school student" part :D. You got me.

Good one.

I actually had an echocardiogram once. I was diagnosed with a systolic ejection murmur when I was 18 and had it worked up by a cardiologist who told me I was fine but could use a bit more exercise. Four years later I went to join the Navy and couldn't find the paperwork from the first cardiologist, so they sent me to a second one who did the echocardiogram. I got to watch my own heart beat on closed circuit tv, which was pretty cool. They checked out my heart valves and re-confirmed that I was fine. My heart works just as it should. It's just a little noisy, kind of like an OM617.

I have a right atrial aneurysm where the fossa ovalis should be. If it ever bursts I drop dead. Just another of the fun things I live with.

Then being in the sometimes blood pressure rising atmosphere of OD is just your way of telling the Grim Reaper "I dare you?" ;)

Coming to in the CICU (Cardiac Intensive Care Unit) and seeing a priest at your side asking if you want Communion. Would that be a double dare.?;)

If this is going to slide into a doctor joke thread.....ever hear the one about the Chinese doctor and Ed Zackary disease? ;)
