The Republican Street Fight Over Transparency in Government

The Daily Beast

Quote:
But Grassley’s view is apparently not shared by more than a third of the Republicans now serving in the Senate. Led by Tennessee’s Lamar Alexander, these senators objected (PDF) to the agency’s request that financial conflicts of interest be disclosed. The Senators were “very concerned about OSHA’s attempt to have commenters disclose their financial backers.” As Liz Wolgemuth, a staffer working for Alexander’s committee explained, “the chilling effect the financial disclosure could have seems counter to the idea of robust inclusion of a diverse set of ideas and views to inform the rule-making.”
I'm with Grassley. The origins of the money should be disclosed. At least then the reader can make more of an informed decision about the conclusions.

Yeah, and the democrats are SO open about everything.

Face it, niether one of these parties, or members of the parties, are any more transparent than a sheet of lead.

I remember Obama's promise of the most transparent administration ever.

Has to do with financial disclosure not campaign issues.

GW lovers might find out things they don't want to know if the various studies funding were let out.

You don't need to know what is going on in their government and frankly it is rude of you to ask. Who do you think you are, anyway?

Just pay your taxes, insurance, interest and your lobbyist and STFU. Don't forget to wave the flag.

Why should someone care who gave to a pol?

But knowing who may well make you an informed voter and with the actual truth about the donors you might decide its not in your own interest to vote for Senator Blow.

Here's my campaign finance reform: Let anybody give whatever to anybody. Unrestricted.

Every donor and every recipient must publicly post all donations on disbursement and receipt. Anything unreported gets doubled and confiscated by the gov. On both ends.

More clarity, less intrusion. Less play with the legal system.

Bot for Congress!
Unfortunately, you have to get the people currently IN the system to vote for any changes. Not going to happen.

You may say, I'm a dreamer.

But I'm not the only one.

What if you can't contribute at all? Lets say you want to run for office, depending were you run for, you have to get a certain amount of signatures before getting your name on the ballot. If you get the signatures needed you will get a fixed amount and free TV time to get your message across.

Take money out of the elections all together, seems to be the best way to go.
