Back then and through the 1970's drivers were replaceable to both team owners and track owners. Considerable credit to Sir John Young "Jackie" Stewart for stepping up and facing the folks with the money.

Honestly being thrown out of the car is probably safer than being engulfed in a benzine fire in a non flame retardant suit with no fire suppression.
