Work a lot of hours? You shouldn't be allowed to vote!

Wisconsin restricts early voting: Cursed with nation's second-highest turnout rate. So if you happen to work (including transportation I suppose) from 8 am to 7pm, you can't absentee vote in person. Workers. That is group we don't want voting! Or was it slaves?

No critisism but I don't undersand the term in the article "limits in-person absentee voting".
In CA you can either vote by an Absentee Ballot that you have to mail before a specified Date (I just did this today for the City Election; we have 11 Canidates for Mayor).
You can Vote in Person.
If you forget to send the Absentee Ballot on time you bring your Absentee Ballot to Same Place where you would normally go to Vote in Person and the check to see if you are allowed to Vote at that place. If you are allowed to Vote there they take the Absentee Ballot and put it in the Ballot Box.

If you don't mail your Ballot you are actually Voting in Person.

Apparently the Wisconsin setup is going to give the Un-employed more political power.

Oddly if the Bill descrimates against the Working Man which Party does that Favor? Republicans often view the hard core Poor as being Democrates.
It seems to Me that the Hard Core Poor and as I said the un-employed are the ones who have time to vote and the Working Republicans would not.

Seems like anywhere I have worked, and I have had some pretty **** jobs early in life, allowed time off to vote.

Not voting on 'voting day' is absentee whether you mail or do it in person. I am guessing the better off you are the more flexibility you have in arranging how/when you vote, regardless if that involves your job or not.

The people who have to work long hours, or because of travel/commute and 8 hours find it hard to be there M-F 8am to 7 pm, only an 11 hour window. You might only be home on weekends, like truckers or other on site personnel. Those people have their options limited by this. Who are they? My guess is Walker's crew figures 'they' are not their base.

Yeah, that's been my experience as well. I've never had an employer that was not keen on working with folks so they can vote.

Doesn't make your experience universal. I've had two jobs (both early in life) and 3 of my 4 kids have had jobs where the deal was very simple: sure you can take time off to vote, but don't count on having a job the day after the polls close (or you can assume you're hours will be cut for days/weeks/forever, or some other form of retribution, etc.).

My employer has no 'leave work to vote' policy.
Neither do they have a 'leave work for Ash Wednesday' policy.
If it's something you want to do, do it on your own time.

Does not make sense. Why would a Republican governor and a Republican legislature want to make it more difficult for people who are employed full time to vote? I would think employed people would be more likely to vote Republican.

Looking at it the wrong way...
More democratic voters vote early than republican.

Polls stay open after normal work hours. This is nothing more than mindless whining and sniveling.

the guy closed weekend voting, and 7pm aint exactly late for working people. I see no reason to limit weekend voting time, except to make it hard for people to vote, especially since it was in effect already.

You really think that is mindless sniveling?

Lots and lots of people get out of work at 6 and have a commute. Polling places are based on where you live, not where you work. Add leaving, commute, getting to the polling place, and you aren't talking a lot of time.

If they were going to close the weekend voting, then open the weekday voting to 10pm, and open the polls at 5am.
