Going to Trinity Site tomorrow

Only open one day a year now. I've been trying to get there for years and this is the first time my schedule has permitted me. Got an old dossimeter with me but radiation levels are so low I doubt it will register anything.

What is the half-life of the radioactive materials in question?

I sorta, kinda, in a conflicted way, want to go when I am in the area but self preservation wins out so far. I am not in touch with the part of me that is fascinated by such things. Maybe I'll buy the post card someday.

Interesting. I've missed out going there once as well when I was visiting inlaws in Las Cruces. If you have time, and have not done so before I'd suggest visiting the White Sands missile museum as well.

Lots of people from around the world here for the open house. Talked to a guy from England today who flew in with a plane load of other people heading in tomorrow. He had just visited the Missile Museum and told us it has a sectioned V-2 rocket with complete explanations of its operation there. We were looking at the rusted remains of a V-2 at the Space Museum in Alamagordo. We won't have time to visit the Missile Museum. Have to head home after Trinity Site tomorrow.

Bikini and Rongelap are the real sites to visit...Bikini'a bomb craters look like God took an ice cream scoop out of the earth, and Rongelap's waste area looks like a monster UFO landed. Both atolls are awesome to visit.
