The Drinking Age Is Past Its Prime

"The age 21 rule sets the United States apart from all advanced Western nations, and it has pushed kids toward pills and other anti-social behavior."

"It is absurd and unjust that young Americans can vote, marry, enter contracts, and serve in the military at 18 but cannot buy an alcoholic drink in a bar or restaurant. "

I believe the drinking age should be zero.

Because alcoholism is totally NOT anti social behavior.

Why have age restrictions on any activity? Why does an individual have to wait until they reach an age contrived by corrupt and incompetent politicians before they can carry a concealed firearm, drive a tractor trailer, buy a fifth of Scotch...

...which gives me one heck of an epiphany! I have a superb idea which could save school districts a small fortune! Let the school children drive the school busses! Each day, a bus could have a new student/driver. Some kids have been riding these busses for years, and probably know them as well as the current adult drivers...

Furthermore, if the minimum drinking age is repealed, school districts could increase revenue by installing cash bars on each bus, and perhaps in school cafeterias...

Countrys with no drinking age such as Italy don't do any of that ridiculous stuff...if you disagree why not just say so instead of playing B?

It's just my way of poking fun at this ridiculous article, particularly in regard to the first statement: "The National Minimum Drinking Age Act, passed by Congress 30 years ago this July, is a gross violation of civil liberties and must be repealed." If establishing a minimum legal age for an activity represents a gross violation of civil liberties, should all existing legislation which establishes minimum ages to conduct certain activities be repealed? Should we allow six-year-old children to hold Federal elected offices? How about ten-year-old private pilots?

Does Italy have any laws which establish minimum legal ages to conduct certain activities?

Italy restricts both drinkin' and drivin':

Drinking ages by country
Driving ages by country

drinking alcohol is nothing like being a pilot or any of those other things you bring up.

When I was there in 1970 and 73 there was apparently not an age since they served children in bars.

Maybe we let people vote before they're mature?

How ab out raising the voting age to 21 to match the drinking age except for armed forces....

They already tried an 18 year old drinking age in Texas and it didn't work. I don't remember how long it lasted. My wife, girlfriend at the time, turned 21 on the very day that the drinking age changed to 18. Had she been a drinker I guess that would haves teed her off. It didn't matter because she hasn't had a pint of alcohol total in her entire life. Probably one of the reasons she still looks so darn good in her early sixties.

Be careful what you ask for, you might get it.

When, in the dawn of time, the legal drinking age was 18 in my state we were buying beer at 15 or 16. Changing the law to 21 didn't change the actual drinking age as far as I can tell.
