If you could get them, would any business still accept them?

You dont need them. I went into Canada with about 4 dollars US in my pocket recently. Just go to a cash machine up there and withdraw Canadian moolah from you US bank account. Apart from the ATM fee, the conversion cost is actually cheaper than going to a money change place, and the banks handle everything electronically without you having to worry about squat.

I did the same thing in Italy last year. I even used my US credit card to pay a italian toll fee getting off a road. I was amazed it worked with zero problems. Travelers checks are dead and gone for the most part. Just make sure to call your bank and tell them where you intend to be so they dont freeze your account when you try to make a withdrawl.

I called my bank and let them know I'll be in Canada and they said to just use any ATM with a Visa logo on it and I'll be good. visa charges a 1% fee for foreign money plus the ATM surcharge(but my CU reimburses me).

Sweeeeet

I might go get $100 CAD to have on me when we fly in

If you fly you can get to Canada in one day.

Most banks have Canadian money that they would love to send up with you. Cash is good to have if you get outside the most touristy areas. I like the loonies and twoonies.

If you can bring back a full flush toilet, get one. You can also buy radios up there that get frequencies that are blocked in the states.

I always carry a big duffel bag full of foreign currency when I cross the border.

I always like to get some Canadian cash, eh?

Seriously a credit card is tough to beat.

Don't go to an Airport currency exchange. The fees will kill you. Much better to use your ATM and credit cards.

Those seniors are, shall we say, a dying breed. The next gen seniors are e-commerce fluent, plastic card fans and not holding on to 19th and 20th C forms of legal tender.
