how hard to change accumulators 2001 SLS rear suspension
changing out the accumulators on a 2001 e320 wagon is there any special process that needs to be done while doing it???

If they are like the accumulators on a 109/6.3 there is nothing to it but to change them out. Accumulators store air under pressure and then release it as necessary. It is the volume of air that is important as the pressure will be enough. The question is: Will you have enough air to move the cylinder as much as you need to move it when you need to move it?
Accumulators are really just sealed vessels with two chambers. One is open to the atmosphere and the other under pressure and they are held apart by a membrane. Air is pumped in under pressure and the pressure is held until needed and then it is pushed back by the sealed in pressure on the other side of the membrane. If you bleed down the system this should be just a remove and replace job. Then you wait for the accumulators to pump up and everything is finished. But post this in the tech section. There may be a trick on the newer cars that I am not aware of. |
