Virginia Beach trip

I keep seeing TW's VA beach thread- I think I might vacation there in July.

I'll have a wife, minivan, and 4 kids aged 8yr - 6m with me. I have a DOD ID card so I can get on base(es) if needed. We'll probably camp at a state park nearby (or on a base)

Anyone live near there - whats cool to do ? (especially given the young children...

-John

John,

I have a USN Ret. brother who lives there. Just a stones throw from the CBBT entrance. I'm gonna see him in 2 weeks. I'll ask him.
Meanwhile...

Ah, I can relate. I remember traveling with that age group (my four all fall in the same range).

Just a heads up, it's only marginally easier traveling with them when they're 16yr - 8yr.

Good luck!

What's cool in VB in July?
Hot as heck in the daytime. Stay in the water, or the shade. People from Ohio burn quick!
Nice beaches, especially Sandbridge beach.
Several half day fishing boats at Rudee inlet.
Water park and Marine science museum near KOA campground.
Nice go-cart tracks at Motor World, not cheap though.
Good wooded trails at Seashore state park, pack a lunch.
Kids like the free ferry ride at Knotts island. Nice day trip through the country.
Plenty to look at on Atlantic ave and the boardwalk for free. Wear mirrored sunglasses so you don't get caught looking!

I lived there for a while. Not a bad town. Avoid the Great Dismal Swamp for obvious reasons. There's good fishing and some decent golf.

I'll have you know that July just happens to be one of my shower months if we happened to cross paths.
