Audi vs. Motorcycles in Brazil

Who has seen this? Just watching it scares the heck out of me. Asinine behavior.

Yes, it's called "lane splitting". The CHP recently released their (long awaited) guidelines on the practice. The basics are:

1) At speeds no greater than 10mph faster than traffic

2) At speeds no greater than 30mph

3) Between the two left most lanes when possible

4) Be safe

You can read up on it HERE. It still makes plenty of people angry, and many motorcyclist still do it irresponsibly. Personally, I don't do it. I suppose I might if traffic was at a standstill and my bike was getting hot, but more likely I'd just shut it off.

Watched the video: Damn! I think the Audi driver was the bigger ass, since he had a lot less room to maneuver and would have caused a lot more damage in the event of a collision.

Regarding lane splitting: Legal in most countries. Illegal in most U.S. states, though I couldn't tell you why. They tried to get it legalized in Nevada but the bill never made it to a final vote. It would have legalized splitting stopped traffic at speeds up to 10 mph, which incidentally is how I do the small amount of splitting that I do. I'd do it a lot more if it was legal, and it would probably take two to four minutes off my ride to work.
