Texas teen suspended for not standing during Pledge of Allegiance

Christian Today

Kid does not agree with the US surveillance and the internet laws so this is his form of protest.

I thought this was the best line in the article.

Needville residents said that although the student may have the right to remain seated during the Pledge, what he is doing is wrong.
If true it proves that at least these Texans have no clue about the COTUS. I wonder if this same line of reasoning could be applied to .... OH ...... right to carry?

He is receiving the benefit of a good public education funded by property tax paying Roman citizens. When accepting a benefit from the Roman state such as a tax payer funded "public education", one surrenders the right to protest against Caesar and Caesar's flag.

I think one of the major misunderstandings amongst people is the difference between patriotism and approval/disapproval of the government. Mark Twain said it best, the two are not the same. I'm loyal to my country but that doesn't mean I always believe or think the government is correct in all that it does. Just because I may be critical of things the government does not mean I am not a patriot.

Well stated HuskyMan.

When I was in school, if I had shown such smart Alec disrespect, I'm quite sure it would have resulted in me grabbing my ankles while the principle took some home run swings with his planed off baseball bat. I would have deserved every single lick.

Sweet! Free vacation for not stooping to pledge allegiance to a piece of rag.

Instead of pledging allegiance to a piece of schmata and to a government (Republic) that has its ups and downs, why not ask school children to pledge allegiance to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights? You know, the principles that this country was founded on, not a meaningless symbol and a government right or wrong.

the debate goes on, doesn't it? I'm lucky enough to have read both sides of the argument and pretty well understand the dilemma. AND MAKE NO MISTAKE, IT IS A DILEMMA. Most people take sides on the issue without taking the time to study and research it thoroughly.

This should be an interesting lesson of how certain segments of our population don't have equal rights under the Constitution, in this case, the free speech rights of students, which is substantially limited.

When I was in school we had a girl in my grade that did not participate in the pledge of allegiance. I think it was religious region. I forget which she was..

I just stood there and day dreamed. When I realized that the "liberty and justice for all" was not true I did not see a point in reciting it.

People are terribly ignorant of COTUS.

As to the right to carry....Texas police have, along with other states, demonstrated total ignorance of open carry laws many times.

He does not have to recite pledge, already decided in West Virginia Board of Education v. Barnette in 1943. The "must stand" bit is pretty much felt to be the same but the court did not speak to it. ACLU will eat the school district and rightly so I think. Those soldiers we speak of fought for freedom of speach among other things. Freedom of speach also includes freedom from speaking (or standing). You can punish him if he doesn't sit quietly, but just sitting while others stand and recite IS speech (just speech some don't like).

Presumably you think the same thing about Washington, Jefferson, etc.

Kerry, perhaps it says more about the personality results of corporal punishment to effect conformity.

Not to mention his education is being paid for by his parents in the form of property tax.
