late model mercedes 600 v12 sedan

Yesterday when dropping off my truck at my Indies the mrs and I spotted a late model (to me) 600 sedan with the v12 engine. She was admiring the wood and leather....I was getting some wood myself.;)

What a delicious car.;)

It was black on black.

Once you go black . . . you never stop polishing . . . :D

Just make sure you buy one with a good warranty!

W220's seem to suffer from more road noise...

You just about need to own your own Oil Refinery to own and operate a new one of those.

But in fact, many of their owners *DO* !!!!!

I remember back when I bought my 74 BMW Bavaria. The lady who ran the credit union for the local teachers was german born. She called it a rich man's car. ...like this one.;)

I'd like to own a V-12 some day. Practical? No. Efficient? No. Pulls like a freight train and sounds great doing it? Very much.

Wait, didn't you already have one of these?

I think I may be preaching to the converted.

I'd love to own one of those cars, but I don't think I could ever do it and stay out of trouble... Massachusetts' Finest would not approve of the speeds that car would make me want to go. The Buick is bad enough already.

Swede had a dual turbo S600. It was the sweetest car I had ever seen.

They're nice and getting very cheap...but for a reason....

May get one for a song with a blown engine. Wonder if a simpler engine would bolt up and drop in.

Only if you swap out all the electronics. Post mid 90's cars relied on so many sensors and computers relating to the engine and transmission management that hardly anything of that nature just "bolts up" anymore.

The closest I've been tot a MB V12 is a BMW. My dad had a 1989 750il. That car was a pleasure to drive. Gobs of power. Getting in was like getting a nice hug. All warm and fuzzy. The right foot was always happy. He regrets selling it to this day. He owned it for about 10 years or so and it needed some work so he traded it in.

Or consider this... What makes a 600 a 600? For some it is the power and for others it is the interior. It is not really quite that simple, but if you don't want to go into insane detail you could far more easily swap out the interior of a 600 into a lower model as long as they had the same wheelbase.

Both would be big jobs and would depend on what you had to work with, but the interior swap could be done over the course of days and the engine swap would be something that would tie up the car for the length of the swap which would involve matching up the electronics, the exhaust, motor mounts, transmission linkage, drive shaft length.... Did I mention I have tried these sort of swaps before?

Because God loves poor people and wants them to be happy? :D

If you swap in a 606 NA or 606 turbo with an OM603 IP and some sort of non-computerized tranny, wouldn't you just pull out the right bulbs from the instrument cluster and carry on? I ask because I would think that the interior electronics would be hard to transfer over between two cars... e.g., even swapping later 126 memory seat switches into an earlier 126 is a big pain.
