Buzzard love birds in my hollow tree

We were on the deck on Saturday and I looked up to see a buzzard perched on the big hollow oak tree in the back yard...pretty soon there were two....then we spotted them mating (not in front of the grandchildren!)....then they crawled into the hollow tree (I never would have guessed there was room for two buzzards in my tree!

I was thinking about shooting them with my 22 but the prospect of babies has softened my heart.

If I understand correctly, it's illegal to shoot a buzzard. I may very well be wrong. I've never looked into it because I never thought about shooting one.

I don't particularly want to kill them, just scare them away. Its good to know its illegal. Of course its illegal to shoot in the city too. Maybe my pellet gun. but now with chicks coming I will just leave them alone.

Lol! This story makes me think of an old line about dating ugly women: "She's so ugly, I wouldn't take her to a buzzard fk"...

Well, TR used to say he favored the Turkey as the national bird, scoffing at the bald eagle as a dandified buzzard so making it a federal crime follows.

We were driving someplace recently in the country and right alongside the road was a huge healthy looking male turkey....made me hungry.

Probably tastes just like a chicken egg.

No I'm not climbing up 30' and poking around in the nest of a bird with 5' wingspan and large sharp beak.

Yikes!

But if you want to come look at it I'll hold your beer and the camera!

I'd be more concerned with the hollow oak tree than the buzzards.

Idunno. Should he be holdin' his own beer then claiming "and I never split my beer" or will this go down as one of those "here, you hold my beer" incidents?

I've hit 'em at least once with a car I was driving. It's hard to avoid them in parts of the country.

They perform a critical function. I think it would be swell to have a nesting pair close enough to watch.
I plan to come back as one. Nothing to do all day but ride the thermals and wait for something to do what everything eventually does.

I kindof like them too, but I don't really want a lot of them roosting in my little woods. Have you ever seen one poop?

Large and gross!
