Broadcast on local PBS tonight. Astonishing how US evangelical/pentecostal missionaries are exporting hatred of gays to Uganda. It's Westboro Baptist with an effective political agenda in Uganda. It'll probably be viewable on the PBS website after tonight. Center of Constitutional Rights has brought a lawsuit against Scott Lively for violations of human rights. I hope it prevails.

Hatred of gays as a key component of preaching the gospel. You need to see it to believe it. Laying on hands and praying over the legislator who is introducing a bill to execute gays. Quivering with excitement over the possibility that murdering gay people is about to become legal. It's horrific.

It's nauseating all right. But remember, this clown is sowing his seeds in fertile soil.

Interestingly, Uganda had a bisexual (or possibly homosexual) king in the 1800s. Said king also burned quite a few people at the stake for daring to convert to Christianity. Times have changed...

That's a good point although as someone in the documentary pointed out, the more Ugandans hate gays, the more US evangelicals send them money so even though the soil is fertile, the fertilizer is being imported. Uganda has been missionized for a very long time. Most of its population is Christian and eager to go along. Shortly after the legislation was proposed, David Kato, a brave sexual rights activist was brutally murdered. But it's not just gays who are suffering under the heterosexual agenda, it's everyone. In addition to being anti-gay, the missionaries are anti-condom and HIV/AIDS is widespread in Uganda. The more they campaign against condoms and in favor of abstinence, the more people die of AIDS. It's brutal, or should I rather say, 'Tough Love'?

There's a fundamentalist group in Washington DC that was been working on exporting the heterosexual agenda for a long time. The aim to convert high powered politicians in the US and abroad. It's called The Family and it sponsors the National Prayer Breakfast in addition to providing housing to US senators and representatives. They have been working with Ugandan politicians for quite a while to introduce Christian heterosexism. Jeff Sharlot has written a good book and a couple of articles about them.

Now you won't find me in support of the "gay hate" camp, but I do think that condemning everything they do is the right choice either.

For too many people "this is not acceptable activity" is indistinguishable with "those who participate in this must be ostracized/killed/shunned/made to be less than human."

I am in personal contact with several missionaries in Mozambique and a few other countries I can't mention. I know that they'd have nothing to do with the kind of policy being taught in Uganda which was referenced.

I'm going to try to find out if my church (Church of the Nazarene) has any missionaries in Uganda at present. I'd love to know how they are handling this.

If you don't have your own heavy weapons to resist, like a long established literate culture with deeply rooted ritual and tradition, I don't know of any other option that will stop a culture from being overrun.
