When ignorance meets apathy...

Nearly 300,000 democrats cast ballots for a guy who is under federal indictment for arms trafficking (among other things) and who has actually withdrawn from the race.

On the other hands, it *is* the Left Coast, so...

If it were Chicago, I'd wonder how many of those votes came from dead people. Being California, I suspect the votes came from state employees.

He was running hard for the office before he got cuffed and hauled away. A lot of folks must have made up their minds early, and absentee and mail in votes had to be returned before he dropped out of the race.

The real interesting number is 51.6% of total votes that the Dems received. The Republicans pulled down 36.8% and the rest went to two smaller parties.

Not really.

He was arrested in late March and dropped out shortly thereafter. It was past the deadline to make ballot changes, but they weren't mailed out for a few weeks after that.

Ignorance and apathy explain most of it, and I think the rest is explained by the adage that there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Unfortunately this is not surprising. This is what is driving our country straight into the ground.

People admire and "wanna be" like that sort of Guy these days so I am not surprised.

Why is that surprising? People listen to whatever the guy says, vote for him and forget everything and believes he will keep his word and all is well. Is that news? Many would simply pick a guy based on "I'm a Dem" or "I'm a Rep" and not pay any attention to anything else but the blue or red. I don't think they picked him knowing he was doing something naughty.I think many vote for a person based on his affiliation to a party they support (assuming the really know what it stands for). All with the illusion that their party will really work to fix a problem. Whatever the other sides says is a damn bunch of lies. My side tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Unfortunately for our country, this is a very accurate post.

I think that theory would hold water except that this was a primary, so they were all democrats. So almost 300,000 picked him as their favorite of five contenders (Yee came in third).

I'm sure there were also a few who knowingly cast their vote for him: a combination of his $taunch $upporter$ and those who hold to the "innocent until proven guilty..." notwithstanding that he actually withdrew from the race.

Thus, all of those people simply threw away their votes...they might have just stayed home instead.

I guess the lesson for other would-be candidates is that voters have a short memory, so you have to remind them of...everything.

Funny thing is that I was moved by cynicism to consider voting for Yee just to make the vote count since I was fairly sure he would get votes.
After reading his personal statement in the voter pamphlet, I reflected on what a bunch of BS that swell sounding statement was and how it effectively diminished the credibility of others' written statements.

The end result of the other voted initiatives was predictable. Higher taxes and more escaping from accountability.
Business as usual in wonder land.
Apathy? In a rigged environment, maybe.

I meant that this sort of thing happens to both parties. They get their share of staunch supporters who don't care who or what they do

The difference between ignorance and apathy?
Really, I don't know, and I don't care!

It absolutely happens in both or all parties. Thats what makes it so alarming.
