Republican politican does indecent things with animals.

Not sure why a candidate would bring this up with his donors unless it was to seal some kind of secret bond.

Republican Sen. Thad Cochran: As a kid, I did ‘all kinds of indecent things with animals’

Actually, I'm guessing he's talking about cow tipping, which has been called indecent.

Any news on his explanation of the comment?

So does this improve how his constituents view him?

Weird...to say the least.

If he were not hoping to improve his status with the voters he would have never bought this up. He was speaking to voters in a rural area, telling them how he spent some of his boyhood years on his Grandparents farm, and the adventures he encountered there.

Then he told the aud something like 'If you know what I mean and I think you do'.

He got laughs with the lines. If your a comic that's what you are always going for, but as a Senator I would think he would be trying to establish his cred in other areas.

And to be truthful about it I don't think it will hurt his chances with this crowd one little bit.

I grew up in a farming area but not on a farm. There were always rumors flying around at school about who was doing what with farm animals. None of those rumors added to anyone's credibility to my knowledge. Of course, none of those boys ended up as senators either.

I was really thinking about it in the context of what seems to be a close battle with a TP challenger.

I don't know much about the TP, but it doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would draw people back if they were starting to enjoy the tea.

I think what would concern me most (were I in his camp) is the choice of words. "Indecent" things conjures all manner of possibilities, where as something like "goofy" or "silly" would be pretty safe.

I totally agree. I think his use of words was supposed to convey a message. I doubt that he is dumb enough to let something like this slip unless he had had a few.

I am sure he will soon follow with a statement such as 'I was just kidding around. What kind of sicko are you to think that of me?'

That's because Conservatives are always the victim.

You have an interesting view of the TP. Do you really think they are as bad as you want to believe?

Sorry if it came across that way, I certainly didn't mean it like that. I honestly don't know much about them, except that the far left hates them with a passion, which gives them some credence in my eyes. I'm pretty much middle of the road, but really cannot stand either of the major parties, so I tend to avoid politics.

All I meant was that since Cochran's battle right now is with the TP candidate, one would think that *everything* he's doing right now would be calculated to make him more appealing to the folks who might be leaning away from him and towards the TP...and I frankly can't imagine which voters (of any party) would be doing the happy dance about a candidate talking about "indecent" acts with animals.

Publicity. You are overthinking this. It positions him as a human, farmboy type. You are not supposed to understand what he meant. You are supposed to feel him. Free publicity, nothing to see here.

I lived in farming areas until fifth grade and was around folks from the farm a bit. I never knew anyone who had sex with any of the animals. I hear folks say everybody does it from time to time....when I hear that I tend to think that they did.

I knew one fellow who was extra geeky who stated that he had masturbated his dog once.

We were all sitting around in somebodys dorm room and nobody was talking to this guy so if felt sorry for him and started talking to him.

Then he tells me this about the dog and I tried to keep him from telling every body else but he was so proud of it he blurted it out to everybody else and it was just like in Alice's restaurant....we all moved away from him.

It could be that it was like that with Cochran. Back in his home territory feeling all warm and accepted, thinking that even his deepest secrets won't bother anyone so he blurts it out. Or, it could be he's just getting old and his left frontal lobe isn't working as well as it used to.
