That story is local and has been more centered around KFC than the dog/child. Pit Bulls attacks are a consistent problem and almost weekly in the news. Reason? Dog fighting is a huge attraction. It is more of a owner caused problem than dog problem. Most of the cities surrounding Jackson have banned Pits, Rots and few others. Jackson has chosen not to have any ordinances citing its an unpopular regulation with voters (read dog fighting venues). But then shoplifting in Jackson is just a ticket too. sigh

Last night for homework we had to do a short essay on our pets. I was very proud of my story even tho' it was a bit sad. This was my essay:
“My cat, Snuggles got eaten by that awful Pitbull dog from down the road. Snuggles was lovely and before we buried her, Dad took her round to show the owners what was left of her. I wish he hadn’t ‘cos Dad got into an awful fight.
The owners said Snuggles must have been intolerant of other pets and must have attacked their Pitbull first and their Pitbull was only defending himself.
That didn’t sound right ‘cos Snuggles was at home eating her Whiskas at the time.
Anyway, after Dad was released from hospital he asked the Council to ban all the Pitbulls from East Malvern ‘cos they were eating all the other pets but the Council said just because a Pitbull eats other pets it doesn’t mean that all Pitbulls are bad.
Crumbs, then Dad got really mad and yelled, ‘You (rude word) Green (rude word) Councils. Why should I have to (rude word) guess what (rude word) Pitbulls are the good ones! You (rude word) (rude word) mongrels can all go and get (rude word)!’
Golly, then Dad got into another fight and the police came and took him to hospital to get mended again and then they arrested him. But Mum got him out of jail and we took him home. Poor Dad. He was a real mess.
He wanted to move to Dandenong so he could buy me another cat, but I’ve got all my friends at school and we really love our house.
Anyway, the owners agreed to keep Jihad in their yard in future, but golly he still barks a lot, especially on Fridays.
Dad is a bit better now and he bought me a new cat so we won’t be moving to Dandenong.
That is until he finds out the Council has approved a big Mosque in Manning Road.

I thought it was a good essay but my teacher gave me 0/10.

News reports indicate that there's no evidence that KFC employees acted improperly.

surprise surprise, radio reporting it was a hoax this morning.

Poor little kid. Used in the middle of a scam, and at the end of the day, still injured and stuck with these irresponsible lying guardians.

KFC will still be honoring it's donation.

Likely left the door open so the dogs could get outside, and not overheat.
Still not exactly the best course of action, but I have little sympathy for people who saunter up past people's garages without an invite.
The mother dog was merely protecting her litter against an intruder.
I routinely tell the door knockers to beat it as soon as they enter my property.
I think you are fooling yourself. Most owners of aggressive dogs (in my experience) have fostered that aggression and are proud of their dogs when they display such behavior.
Dogs want to please, and if they understand that aggression will be met with correction, then they will alter their behavior.
Think back to all your experiences with aggressive dogs and try to recall the behavior of the owners.... bet they were smiling or smirking or even joining in.
99% of the problems with ANY dog breed is the owner.

Seriously, that is a super bad idea.
Like hitting a thumb tack with a sledge hammer.

Much of the general public shouldn't do a lot of things.
Has no bearing on the breed.

Personally, I do not feel that any breed should be outlawed.
Possibly when a dog fighting ring is uncovered, destroying the lineage of dogs involved and bred for it might be a fine course of action, but do not outlaw a breed because of the idiots who chose to own them.

Which breed is most likely to bite?

If you answered Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Doberman or German Shepard, you would be wrong....

^ One could also pose the question: which breed is most likely to be used by macho owners as a symbol of intimidation, and mistreated in such a way to make it more malleable to be used as an attack dog?

And further: which breed when it bites is most likely to do severe, disfiguring damage?

That is impressive. Not dissing you, I hope this is true. I may actually increase my occasional patronage of their franchise. I eat at Taco Bell, a subsidiary, semi regular. Not the best but when you're in a hurry, acceptable.

What I said above is what the owner of the dog told the police. He was a drug addict who couldn't pay his bills and was trying to avoid eviction. He had left the garage door a little bit open and the inside door to the house open, the pups were unreachable by the mom, and he'd done it so the dog would freak out and attack anyone coming up to put up another eviction notice. He tore the other one down otherwise I wouldn't have gone up to the door.

Agree. That poor kid. No matter whether it was a hoax or not it was never going to be a great thing for her. But that the family used her this way seems much worse.

ah.... that is a great example of douche bag animal owner.
I blame the dog even less in light of that extra info.

anyone who deliberately separates a mother from her litter like that should have their life's purpose shifted to 'fertilizer'
