When I was younger we had a LOT of raccoons at our property, we got rid of them by trapping and relocating. I think we caught about 7 of them. Once caught we'd cover the cage with a tarp, throw it in the back of the van, and drive about ~20 miles out of the city and let it out. No more problems after that. (for us anyways :D)

We get coons in our neighborhood with the woods across the street. Lots of foxes also. The foxes aren't a bother at all and never had to shoot one.
I had a cat about a year ago, outdoor cat. I recall it being away for about 2 days (quite typical) and she had the coloring of a coon. Well, one was rummaging around at something when I came back from the neighbors and it was at the side of my house. I began to start calling the cats name thinking it was her and the coon turned around and started looking at me and approaching. I got away calmly without a bother, but I haven't had to shoot one yet. They typically don't bother us here, and haven't been through my trash so I'm ok right now. |

I always use a 22lr with sub sonic ammo. Barely makes a loud pop. :)

I suspect Animal Control has a similar arrangement except that they will come and pick up the Cage with Beastie inside. |

I've got one neighbor that feeds the buggers dog food...
The other neighbor, just 500 feet to the west of the 1st one, finishes them off with a 12 guage. He then buries the buggers in his garden. Says they're only good for fertilizer anyways. Me? Hit one that stayed on the roadway too long...suma'b!tch dented the 123. :( Damn thing walked away after a good rollin' under the car. I hope his head hurt a bit... |
