The new S-Classes are looking like Nissans now. If I really wanted a Nissan, I'd buy a Nissan.

Very cool. I like how the computer points to the bin for the part and then lights up which bin on the cart that the part goes to.

I'm surprised they left the entire underside bare primer and exposed sealant. You can see where the paint over spray ends and the primer begins all over the floor and frame rails. I know this is common practice on the cheapest cars but an S class? No undercoating? Even the rust prone W210 has primer and paint all over the bottom.

sad

yeah I almost can't wait til a few years from now til these things are out of warranty and all the chinese stepper motors, relays, air pumps, etc decide to take a crap on the second owners who think they got a "great deal" on a lease return.

By the way, had yet another 221 S class in my shop today that had to have the wonderful 722.9 transmission replaced with under 100k miles on it. Job security is what I call em.

Are the transmissions going out because of lack of service?

I wish I had one of those tools that installs the dashboard.

Nope, the two failures I have seen within the last 30 days were both very well maintained one owner cars, driven by mature adults.
Both had their initial trans services done at around the 40k mile range and both of these cars had the font pump bushing explode before the cars had 100k on them.

When the pump bushing fails-it scores up the bell housing and welds the bushing to the torque converter which = big $$$$$$.

Newer version trans from MBZ uses needle bearings in front pump along with a bunch of other upgrades, such as newer version of control unit & valve body,etc..... too bad it all ends up on the customers dime who was fooled into thinking that they bought a reliable car for nearly $100k

Since you seem pretty familiar with newer MBs, what is your opinion of a 2003 W220? 2003 specifically because its the last year of the 722.6 and first year of the facelift.

Biggest issue with those (03 220chassis) now that they are just over 10 years old is the airmatic system is a ticking time bomb, if it hasn't had a major failure yet,,,,it will soon.
Of course there are options on that system, such as reman units, or some aftermarket units, or even eliminating the airmatic and going to conventional shock/spring packages,,,,,but be aware that there have been mixed results with those options.

The engines have pretty much been fine, and the 722.6 usually only issue with those is the plug that leaks and the conductor plate which is pretty easy fix. There is also about ten different supercedures to the gearshift lever as they likes to spew and not want to shift out of park. There is a kit available nowadays to replace the50cent plastic arm the likes to break in the shifter.
Gotta watch out for water intrusion if the car lived under a tree that plugged the drains in the car, and then theres the instrument clusters that like to go dark- but those should have all been recalled by now. also watch out for xenon light cars as they can be pricy to fix.

I think I reckognize your user name from the 190 rev. Sorry for getting the thread off track.

Airmatic is not really a big issue. It's the ABC suspension on the 55/600/65/63 that is a total pain in the you know what and a complete drain on the wallet.
