It did $11 mil in initial release, not bad for 1984 numbers.
There's a small group of actors who always seem to rise above the script, production or role. I think Garner was one. Gene Hackman. Tommy Lee Jones. Robert Duval. And more recently for me, John Goodman

That's a good list.

I'd add to that:
Anthony Hopkins, Dennis Quaid, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman (RIP).

People magazine has a good piece on Garner this week. Was in a long line at Safeway late at night (one register) and read most of it.

One story was interesting: someone told a story of the two of them grabbing some time on a filming break to go play a round of golf and just as they were about to go in a bus filled with lady tourists pulled up and they swarmed him wanting autographs and photos. Story was that he jettisoned the golf game and spent lavish time with them, enjoying himself and engaging them at length.

i dont know about you guys, but im episode 15 into "the rockford files" and im enjoying it fully. free on netflix.

best part is watching the 30 foot 70s cars wallow around corners, and all the cameos from people who became famous later and started with a bit part on a show like this.

garners underlying comedic role makes it totally watchable.

I'll have to check it out. I always loved the fact that he lived in that seedy trailer down by the water.

I wonder how many Firebirds made the ultimate sacrifice for that series?
