For 1981 is pretty revolutionary. It looks like an oversized cross breed between a Renault 25 and a Citroen BX with a sniff of Mercedes.

Given the small opening windows in the front doors; the absolute inability to roll down the rear windows, and that huge contoured glass hatch, one best keep the A/C in good working order at all times.

You can always leave the hatch open. You would be surprised about how many European models of that time don't even have arco (as they call it in Europe).

It looks a Lincoln on side view, but hopefully it didn't drive like a water bed like a true Lincoln does.

I'd probably drive it, can't imagine many people buying one looking like it. Looks like enough room to have a lot of great sex in that back seat.

I'm glad I don't have to pay for the hatch when i gets broken by someone doing a " smash and grab" for a small briefcase with nothing in it...

IIRC, the cost for a very similar piece of glass for the hatch of a third-gen Camaro/Firebird was $1,200, and that was in 1983 dollars. I don't even want to hazard a guess what MB would have charged. Probably enough that such damage to a 10 year old example of such a car would have totaled it from an economic perspective.

Looks like they had the foresight to pre-sag the rear suspension so folks would get used to seeing it that way as it aged.
