Traffic down on OD seems like a good thing. I dont see traffic down elsewhere, diesel discussion in particular is pretty busy as always.

I am rather less interested now that I've moved on from my Mercedes. I'll check it on tapatalk just to see the latest threads and discussion but my interest has certainly waned. I wonder if creating OD's political and religious forum (along with redoing the regions/states) had any impact on natural search traffic. It would be a shame if that were the case since those who screamed for the section are no longer posting in here anyways. I don't think OD traffic is correlated with revenue for this site though, that doesn't really make sense.

IDK if traffic is down across the whole site or just OD. Do you ... or are you just guessing?

No more than you appear to be guessing that traffic is down on the whole site. Ive said several times that things look as busy as ever on the tech forums, certainly diesel discussion. No i dont have a google analytics on the PP website, and neither do you. My opinion is simply my opinion, same as you.

OD seems a lot more civil and calm. I attribute this to OD not being clogged with 35 political troll threads per day, as was the norm until recently. Im just fine with that.

Larry's banning has much to do with the reduction in troll threads. Hopefully the mods will realize how much he brought this forum down and permanently ban him.

I am hoping the slight down trend is temporary. If ever in the future the site is going to be dropped I hope we get adequate warning. I think my printer would get a good workout. There are some priceless threads in the archives.

I am more than aware than far fewer hobby people will be able to deal with much newer models of diesels in general. Or even want to. At the same time cars like 123s and 126 are going to reach somewhat affordable collector status. This may bring an additional crowd.

For example I have noticed some earlier diesel volkswagons reciently appearing on American ebay with indicated very low miles for many reasons. One really solid southern low milage one would interest me as my to town and back transportation and local cottage runs as well.

Thinking 1985-1986 turbo models as both those years seemed to last almost forever in our hands. Easy and cheap to repair. I hate the expression but even a child could probably do it. Perhaps the cheapest overall operating cars we ever owned over the miles and reliable except for really cold weather. That is no longer an issue as we would not put good examples through the salt anymore here in eastern Canada now. They have all rusted off the road or high milage has killed all the local examples.

My wife gets on my case for not buying new personal vehicles for myself. She does not understand I just do not want them. That 2001 Honda civic that had 40k miles I got maybe eight months back has been doing well so far. Dog hair on the seats now and all.

I bet the occasional illuminating service required light on the dash may indicate it is time for me to change the timing belt now. My perspective on fuel milage at usually 1.40 a litre here in Canada or about 5.60 an American gallon.

Cars we use on short local trips that are gas powered get no milage basically. Half the trips the fuel enrichment systems are probably active is my guess with the cold engines...

The old volkswagon diesels used perhaps just a much smaller percentage of the fuel on those short trips. So the gas cars getting 35 miles or so on the highways but perhaps 20 at best locally where 90 percent of their driving occurs for me. The volkswagon diesels are still pretty high fuel milage wise on those same trips. I know one would cut my personal; fuel bill in half or more.

I burn somewhere between 60 and 100 a week in the Honda going no further than 20 miles from home with all the short trips. I think a old but good volkswagon diesel might burn 25.00 or so in the same service.

I am less than bright. When fuel was cheap I drove lots of volkswagon diesels. Now that fuel is a tad higher the last few years have been driving gas cars.

The 123 diesels are hobby cars. I do not want to put them into daily service. Winter here is also really severe on most any car. Rust and corrosion in a big way.
