1985 In the 500 Autobhan Pedal to the floor as long as it could take it. I would love to test out that 140mph top speed. Or a 500 AMG would be ok too.

Holland - 4 years ago - repeat the experience of riding in an Italian Lancia doing 260 kilometers per hour (about 156 mph). I never thought that the only clear vision you would have is a circular tunnel in front of you - everything else is blurred. Very exhilarating! Only downside was that I almost turned the grey leather seat brown!!!

My Dad bought one of those about 20 years ago...but it was a t-top model. Silver w/original hunter green interior...that took some getting used to!

Got it from a guy who lost his shirt in an ugly divorce...saw it for sale at a car show.

A real blast to drive! Awfully squeaky (don't know if age or GM was at fault there).

Car looked great, but after getting involved with the local Corvette club did I learn about how incorrect the car REALLY was...

...350 motor, but 427 hood. Aftermarket hose clamps, and other non OEM engine parts.

Missing the crossed flags and stingray emblems...bought some at the Bloomington Gold swap meet and reinstalled.

Shod with white-letter Goodyears instead of the correct "red-striped" tires.

Clock didn't work, and neither did the odometer.

Still a great car! Dad sold it after I moved out of the house...no one at home wanted to bother with it except for me...

1979, in a grey-market '79 BMW M635CSi with an Alpina turbocharger conversion, 16" Alpina rims, and a Getrag 5-speed.

The place? Sea-to-Sky highway, between Vancouver, BC and Squamish, heading south

I'll be cruising along in the Bimmer, 60-ish mph, when a gold-chained poseur pulls out to pass behind me, in a 25th Anniversary Edition Corvette (1978), on a straightaway. As he pulls out (no turn-signal) I'll drop from 5th to 3rd, and get the 3.5 liter "Big Six" up to around 4k rpms, right in the powerband. It'll be a little doggy until the turbo kicks in, but I'm not going to nail it just yet.

Wait until the Vette's shark-like prow is parallel with the Bimmer's roundel and kidney grilles. Then apply loud pedal to carpet. He's pulling ahead, because this 3.5 Six's compression ratio is reduced to 8:1....for forced induction

Is that a turbo woosh I hear? Is the Alpina boost gauge winding toward full boost? Before the Vette can pull a carlength in front of me, I'm beside him again, with the Six singing a 6,000 rpm song as I shift from 3rd to 4th at 85, with the car pulling like a normal 635 pulls in second. The Vette becomes a faint headlight-flashing, fist-shaking memory in the rearview mirror, and that's the last I'll see of him.....

-Sam
