Pressure Washer Maintenance Questions

The main question is about changing the oil in the pump on a pressure washer. This one is a horizontal shaft Excell EXHP2630 with a Honda GX engine. I just bought this one used.

How can I determine how much oil to use in the pump and is Mobil1 ok?

Is there anything else to keeping up a horizontal shaft PW?

My old PW is a vertical shaft unit with a plastic Honda engine. The pump leaks badly. The carburetor needs work or replacement. I will let this one go.

You normally use pump oil for the pump. Regular engine oil has detergents which cause it to foam up. Most have a sight glass to view the oil. Not sure about how to check the level. I've never changed mine after 6 years. Oil looks good. Check the manual.

It probably has a Annovi Reverberi pump Pressure Washer Pumps, High Pressure Pumps & Misting Pumps by AR North America

Mine calls for their special synthetic lube, it looks like syn gear lube.

Given the limited consumer use, I'd expect the oil to go life of pump unless it gets soaked in water ( moisture in oil ) but I haven't looked at the web site.

The pump on mine leaks water but still works fine. It was a free washer, someone put in a spark plug that was gapped at 1/4" ( 0.250" ) when it should have been 0.025" so. I'm guessing it would stall under load, had a new air filter too.

Don't forget to run some RV antifreeze thru them before we get cold temps.

My pressure washer has a fill plug on the side, fill level is just like a manual transmission or differential in an automotive application.

There is also the "drain the old stuff into a container and measure to see how much you drained out". You might have to steal a measuring bowl from the kitchen (and face your wife's wrath ?) ...most 1qt gear oil or Engine oil bottles have a translucent side stripe and graduations...

The books says 20oz, and that should be gospel, but if you only get 10oz out, you need to be asking why (or, skip the questioning and only put 10oz back in

This thread has some good useful information, thanks for the posts.

I downloaded the manuals for the pump and engine.

I got back to the pressure washer today and ran it for a while after I changed the motor oil. It runs really well and pumps really well. I have to read about the unloader for starting the machine with water attached and pressurized, not sure about that.

It is an AR pump and has a drain plug on the bottom and a dipstick on top. It is a $10, once in a lifetime oil change. I will order the correct oil for it along with a sand blast attachment.
