Anyone ever sell a car on Bring-A-Trailer
I was interested on how successful they are at promoting your sell.Upon Reading the "How To" details of posting an add their your upfront fee of $250 is due at that time, its then onto a bidding process resembling Ebay which goes on for 2 weeks ,the real difference is how some bidding warriors come in and try to handle a bid off, a few safe guards for the seller are in place on the site to handle some of these bidding problems which other sites have had problems with during website auctions.

They are 10x more likely to flake on eBay, and you have no recourse if they do it there too. The auction format is a recent addition.
I have had 4 cars listed on there, sold 3, back when it was just a BAT listing. Original Black Lacquer: 1941 Buick Club Coupe | Bring a Trailer BaT Exclusive: Recommissioned 1949 Chrysler New Yorker | Bring a Trailer BaT Exclusive: Euro-Spec 1984 Mercedes Benz 500SL | Bring a Trailer This one did not sell on bringatrailer, rather autotrader one week after I listed it. BaT Exclusive: 87K-Mile Supercharged 2001 Jaguar XJR | Bring a Trailer Your car has to be special in some way. They have turned down other interesting cars I've had over the years.

Autotrader add Tyler ,was it sold to some one locally? I used AT back in the day but turned to Craigslist upon their arrival on the internet. The CL crowd seems to be more and more like tire kickers and joy riders .Its time to move on to a better host seller and create less drama in my life.

A friend of mine recently listed a car on Craigslist. It was nothing special, just an old used car.
He received calls from up to 500 miles away, all with the same pitch: If you are willing to take 50% or less of the car's asking price we might talk. He received a lot of these calls and finally decided to meet with one of the 'buyers'. The guy said the best he could do after looking at the car was 30% of the asking price but he was willing to pay cash. My friend said no and the guy got pretty upset so my friend just smiled at him, told him to have a nice day and to get lost. I told him this must work with some folks or why would people do it? He said there had to be a better way to sell a used car. So if anyone knows of one...... |

My latest CL ads got a lot of people wanting to text while at work. I think it was mostly for entertainment. I think they were bored and daydreaming.
At the other end of the scale you get sellers asking three times what anyone would reasonably pay for something. Most people don't have cash to buy a car. A great many americans now and in the future will never outright own a reliable car in their lifetime. If it is paid for they will be running it with a maintenance deficit. Basically running it into the ground. Car lots offer payment plans and now some car repair shops have to offer payment plans. Some of this is "buy here , pay here" lots harvesting cars to "rent to own" the goal isn't to sell the car, it is to make $ financing. And, rates are high enough that if the person bails on the last payments, they still made $. Some BHPH lots add GPS tracking so they don't lose the car.
Another angle is exporters to other lands and street corner car flippers. Cars are affordable, if one buys a reasonable car not a $ 40,000 SUV. $ 15,000 will get you a new econo box that will get the job done. |

"" The richest Americans hold more of the nation’s wealth than they have in almost a century. What do they spend it on? As you might expect, personal jets, giant yachts, works of art, and luxury penthouses.
And also on politics. In fact, their political spending has been growing faster than their spending on anything else. It’s been growing even faster than their wealth. "" What the "99%ers" are failing to remember is that the "rich" spend their $ on things that create jobs for Joe Lunch Box. Remember what happened to the light aircraft / large boat / RV market when the Luxury tax hit? What about construction jobs to build those big houses? Here's a thought, If one person spends $ 100,000 on home improvements, is that more evil than 10 people spending $ 10,000 each? Or 20 spending $ 5,000? |

It's just short of a proven fact that trickle down economics doesn't work. Surely the way the last 20 years have gone makes this obvious. Either the government will step in, or the 99% will get restless enough to start demanding better wages. Each state that put a minimum wage increase up to vote this election passed, despite electing Republicans that oppose it.
I'm getting out of the business of selling cars because it is so miserable. People are broke. Thanks to that fact, used car prices are ridiculous because in house financing dealers drive up the prices of cheap cars. Since I don't want to play bill collector to broke people, and can't find a reasonable source of inventory, I can't survive. It is hard for me to hide my contempt for the lowballers anymore. Even back when I was nice about it, I can't recall one instance where someone offering half over the phone before looking at the car resulted in a sale. When they ask it now, I answer, would you? Would you take thousands less than what I send to to the dealer wholesale auction? Sometimes I ask them if they think I'm stupid. Sometimes I ask them why. If they say that's all the got then I say your should be shopping for $5000 cars and not $10,000 cars. One woman threatened to turn me in for harrasment of a text conversation a few weeks ago. She told there were other cars similar to mine selling for thousands less, she just wanted my color. I asked her to send me one example. She couldn't. I kept pressing her, she couldn't back up her statement, then started insulting me. I sent her book values, dealer auction comparables, along with average asking prices on these on automotive websites within a few hundred miles. She threatened to turn me into the police for harassment. Bet she won't try that line again. This was all via text message, never spoke a single word to her, never insulted her, was never mean. She just started spewing insults then playing victim. When someone calls and asks if I finance, I usually reply: I don't finance bad credit people because they don't pay and that's why they have bad credit. I used to ask about their situation, but maybe 1 out of 20 calls was an actual viable customer so I don't bother anymore. Just too burned out with people and their BS. Autotrader is good if you have a car people are looking for, and its priced lower than the competition. Keep in mind this is the worst time of year to sell a car. If you can wait until people who can't save get their tax returns at the beginning of the year, that's the best time. Thankfully, I only have 5 cars left, then I'm done for good. I will just auction off cars or trade them at the dealer from now on. I just need to find a new hobby now that's just as consuming, or make enough money so I can start collecting.
