Time for a new wagon. Recommendations?

Sadly my 1995 w124 is nearing the end and I need a newer wagon that I can rely on. I have owned this vehicle for 12 years and absolutely love it. I am also familiar with the 2003 w210 wagon, who a friend of mine ownes. I need something newer though. Something I can get at a dealership where I can get financing. Any recommendations? Here is what I am looking for:

Wagon
Reliability
Quality in build
Best year for a particular model

I don't care about extras and add-ons. I hate the thought of even having a computer in the car but I know that's the way it is. I loved the simplicity and utilitarian aspect of my w124.

Any info on E320 vs E350?

Also any recommendations on where to research and find reviews would be great.

As always, thanks for any advice.

I was at the dealer recently and noticed this one that is available. It is a good looking car.

Most credit unions would have no problem loaning on a 2003. Get pre-approved there and go shopping for what you want.

The Dodge Magnum was built on a Mercedes chassis, shares alot of the good stuff. Interior is not top quality but the vehicles themselves are solid.

Why not just look for a cherry, low-miles W124 wagon, since you like them and are familiar with them? There are some out there, if you look hard enough.

It's really hard to go wrong with the 124 wagon, particularly with the M104 engine.

Maybe he wants something built in this century. When are you dreamers going to stop promoting w124's as realistic daily drivers? Regardless of their build quality, the freshest model is old enough to be in college.

Yaddadee bladadee la. I've put 50k miles on my 240d and it's actually been more reliable than many new cars owned by people I know. Modern sensory deprivation chambers on wheels are overrated. Good for cripples and limp-wristed kathoeys.

I'd take a 123 or 124 over 90% of post-2000 cars any day of the week. For one thing, at least they still have side windows, not gun slits that would be more at home on an Abrams tank.

If money is no object I'd be kicking the tires on something like this:

Newfangled 124? Some of us are still daily driving 123's.

It's a little tough to make a recommendation without knowing how the vehicle is going to be used.

Don't you live in NYC? How many miles do you put on your car in a year? If it decides to go tits-up one morning, are there any alternate forms of transportation nearby that you could employ?

I have owned many VW's, including a diesel. Just not the level of quality that I have grown accustomed to, however I may entertain a test drive of one.

Good point. You have any 1995 w124's for sale?

No way on American though!

Too funny.... I have never owned a vehicle that was made in the same decade. Why start now?

Budget, well.... don't really have one. Was not planning on this. Def not $500 a month payment though.
