Reason #1 to not be a cheap ass when it comes to tires and brakes. I only use discount tire, followed by big o. The last time I when elsewhere, I had to break out the big impact to get the wheels back off.

I used to go with Tire Rack till Discount Tire became cheaper. This time, I could get Discount Tire's Michelin mounted on the car for $10 more than it could be delivered to my door by Tire Rack. Also got a $70 rebate. I don't know about "The Big O" unless you are talking about a woman having a happy moment.

I never look that closely. I don't buy some unknown brand. Usually, they are Michelin since they have so far, outlasted the warranty and other brands by a long shot.

Technical Info and Definitions|Where are your tires manufactured?|Michelin Tires

Not always US made either according to the manufacturer.

Dothan, AL, or at some location in SC. Hardly NK.

Michelin currently employes over 17,000 Americans.

After my 4.5 year old Michelin on my truck blew and nearly got us killed, I'm not so sure I'm going be buying them again. But face it; the tire engineers have figured out how to compound the tires so they fail after 5 years. To add insult, there has been a lot of mergers/buyouts in the tire company business. Very little competition and tire prices have gone up way faster than the inflation rate.

I'm not sure I understand your argument. A tire blew. It happens. Now if there is a massive amount of tires of one type blowing, fair enough. This could be a freak incident.

And you figured this out how? Nothing lasts for forever.

If everything remained consistent, perhaps. OTOH, once we add the fact that there are new compounds or new manufacturing techniques, we have changed the equation.

I have been in and around the auto repair business for nearly 40 years and , with modern tires, blow outs are rare. Now, tires do occasionally break belts ( damage from hitting a pot hole ) and vibrate then ,if ignored, will come apart. Another possibility is running over something / running with low tire pressure, this causes the tire to overheat and separate.

Don't be so quick to blame the tire. I'm sure your new favorite tire has people that don't like it because they had a "blow out" some time in the past.

Be sure to run any pricing through this.:

If you want to make sure you are buying US made tires here is a handy list of US tire makers. Most major brands are made both here and abroad, but this lists the codes to look for on the side of the tire to find out just where it was made.
