The seats in the W201 before the facelift (pre 1988) are much different than the facelift seats. The facelift seats weigh a heck a lot more because they have extra foam padding, especially in the rear seats, which is foam filled in combination with springs unlike the earlier seats which just have springs and the seat pad on top. The rear seat also has better side bolstering. The front seats are similar, much firmer than the pre-facelift seats. The seat skins for both are completely different than the pre-facelift seats. I believe they are much more comfortable, so much so that I installed the ones from my 2.6 parts car into my 87 even though they were the wrong color (Palomino vs Middle Red) and made the car look terrible.
Now in the Sportline, the front seats are pretty comfy but I prefer the back seats as they are even better.
