WTF is wrong with people?
 

Seriously. I've been following the story on a motorcycle forum where the rider posted originally, but a Facebook page has been set up for others to see:

Still waiting to see how the entire thing works out, as it is a work in progress at the moment, but it's looking good. I just can't believe that someone would be so heartless. At least some folks with a surplus of heart managed to show up in time.

Asking what is right about people is a much, much shorter list.

Because taking the time to share the story of the dog rescue in a commonly used manner that allows friends and family to follow along is just a gigantic waste of time and resources? Not sure I follow you here?

Some days, that certainly seems the case. At least in this case the right people seem to be doing ok. Vet visit went ok, and the dog is coming around nicely.

I can tell you that if I had to choose between yanking a stranger or a dog out of a burning building, the dog wins every day.

I'm just glad the dog is OK. Wish we could legally put the guy who left the dog there in a cage except I'd put food about a foot away from the gate.

Personally I look at the whole Facebook thing as a waste of time. I took a look at the link and never did find where it said what had happened to the dog. I guess I am not very face book friendly.

On a side note I have a sister who created a Facebook page for her dog. Who cares what the dog does every half hour but she puts it out there. She is retired so I guess it does give her something to do. Personally I don't want everyone knowing mine or my dogs business every hour.

Is it much different from us sitting down for breakfast with a bunch of buddies and catching up on how the kids are, what's new, how the wife or husband is, etc? Only difference is I can catch up anytime vs having to make a specific time to meet. Personally I only use Facebook for business reasons and don't want to disseminate information to anyone unless I have to but I can see someone else who does.

Dog eats, sleeps, caps and runs around a bit for the most part.

Lol, I ain't a hater. I guess I am old school. If I want to talk to friends or kin folk I do it in person or via the telephone :).

Well, I don't do the Facebook thing either, but I understand how it allows users to share info, photos, whatnot, in a convenient manner. And, as Aklim said, across time differences as well. I wouldn't have a Facebook page* just for my dog, to give updates about his doings, but in the case of a rescue, where lots of people are interested I think it makes sense.

When I posted that yesterday, the dog hadn't been to the vet yet, so there wasn't that info to share yet. It wasn't until last night that we got to hear the results. Local media and law enforcement are curious about the story, it will be interested to see if anything comes of that.

Yeah, Aklim, I'm with you, dog first. And as for the person who did this to the dog, all sorts of ideas can come to mind.

*full disclosure: My dog does have a Facebook page. Years ago when Facebook was all the rage and everyone was saying I had to get on it, I tried it out. But I didn't want to use my own name or info, so I created a fictitious persona using my dog's name. I looked around a bit, determined I wasn't missing much, and haven't messed with it since. I don't know if accounts go away after a time of disuse or not, but neither the dog or I remember the login info, and no one has touched it in years.

I couldnt find the original story either. Maybe the format is different for people without facebook.

My son and I were taking a quick ride last Saturday, cold and raw, when we spotted a dog carrier on the side of a deserted stretch of road:

Didn't think much of it until we swapped bikes and made a second pass, (obeying all local regulations and posted speed advisements), thought to check the crate and found a dog that had been left to starve, so desperate that she had tried to chew through to her freedom through the top of the crate:

She was so weak she could barely growl at us, so we high tailed to the closest store, a Family Dollar a few miles away, returned with a bag of dog food:

She's now curled up in the garage, feeding her slowly to get her strength back. Judging from her actions, I fully believe that she has been confined to that crate her entire life; her claws and feet are deformed, no social skills whatsoever. I'm not a bad ass by any stretch, but I swear I could kill the son of a ***** responsible for this atrocity without a twitch of conscience. We have a vet visit scheduled for tomorrow to see how extensive the damage is...

All my dogs were rescues. Good thing they found her.

I'm sure this was a discussion just at the time phones came out. It is less personal, it doesn't show face, etc, etc.
