Honda Civic cvt transmission
So I'm looking at a place to live amongst many mountain roads. The Benz won't take those miles well or swiftly.
I'm looking at a 2 door civic. Prob put a suspension package on it to make the drive home easier. I'm generally a manual guy but curious about this cvt tranny they have. Anyone know anything about it? Any red flags? Otherwise it's gonna be an si |

We had a Honda insight with it for a few months (Before the Mrs. got tired of getting in and out of it). I liked the CVT. It got good economy and when you floor it the car really jumped.

I think the jury is still out in regards to cvt transmissions in cars. Honda does recommend a routine fluid change on theirs. I tried to help someone with a Nissan Murano with one in it that was at 200k miles. It was starting to act up. Reading up on it sounds like Nissan does not recommend fluid service but to just test the fluid as a routine maintenance item and then they tell the customers it is good to go. Unfortunately, from what I read, it sounds like you don't rebuild them you replace them at high cost.

That's what I've heard. And lots of problems on the nissans.
I'm looking at a civic, which is a kids car, which means there will be some sitting in the junkyard with low miles and good tranny's. I don't know if I'm financially capable of being the test mouse. SI it is maybe. A buddy is saying the new motor can hit 300 horsepower with a chip, intake and exhaust. Yikes. And they rev to 8k. His has a $1200 suspension package, skunk brand. And it handles pretty nice. I'm going to a shop for the upgrades because they are easy, and I don't know the products nor want to. |

A si hitting 300hp on a basic tune? No civic on the market will hit anywhere near that without aftermarket forced induction. The "new one" you're referencing is probably the type R that was just announced. Figure that will probably land around $35k or more. Sent from an abacus

Yeah idk. My buddy said it. I'll see him shortly and ask what the deal was.
I drove a 4 door with a cvt. Not enough positive caster. It darts around on the wheel. That combined with an itty bitty wheel makes it feel like a ride. I'm gonna try the 2 door SI. I think I'm looking for excuses. I wonder if I will be able to drive a Japanese car. I doubt it. |

Here's the CTR. From an engineering standpoint it seems awesome, from an aesthetic standpoint it is HIDEOUS. Lots of hot hatches offer similar excitement...GTI, focus ST etc
