Damn these are getting pricey

930

It does have low miles however: 1986 Porsche 911 930 Turbo - 1-Owner From New - Fully Documented - Rennlist Discussion Forums

I remember 5 years ago they were $40k. When is the 911 bubble going to burst?

Supposedly it won't burst again, but will if going down just do it more gradually. Yeah, there was a time when I considered owning one of those but before I had the chance they have gone out of range!

I remember my Mom was looking into buying one in the early 80's. We went out and test drove one and she was quite underwhelmed. Too rudimentary for her.

Nowadays that's the hipster trend, back to basics. That trend will die off and so will the market for the analog sports cars.

What I like though is the first year 928's with the pasha interior. One with a 5-speed. Mmmmm.....

I think a 928 with a five speed would be very nice! I'm not sure about those checkered seats though!

Nah, the hipsTARD trend is not owning a car and taking Uber. The analog car trend is fueled by people who are sick of modern cars trying to be Nintendos or iPads on wheels. I hope this trend only ends when fun-to-drive, simple, but electric sports cars become common. Best of all worlds: clean, fun to drive, and 100% torque from 0 RPM. The Mk. 1 Tesla roadster was pretty much what a modern car should be. Sadly discontiuned.

Screw the idea of the day when we'll all roll around in our namby-pamby self-driving safety-nancy transportation surveillance pods with a large, bloody, dull, fire axe.

That's a lot of money for a Beetle

Seriously, I had the opportunity to drive rather a lot of 911's at one place I used to work. I like them a lot, but I may have to forgo my wish of owning one if prices keep going up. There are some other interesting cars around that should be available at a much lower price point on the used market in the next few years.

Depends on who you believe is buying them - hipsters or Europeans. Quite a few of the old low mile 911's for sale locally were snapped up by European buyers because of the strength of the euro and lack of clean, rust free, low mile cars there.

I have been saying this for awhile the 80's and 90's European cars are going to go the way of muscle cars as my generation ages and increases its buying power. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

As people age they buy what they couldn't afford when they were younger, or what reminds them of the old days.

One of the reason that pre war cars are so cheap now is all those people who remembered them new have died. Muscle cars are next.

I have noticed the price of pre-war Packards has trended down for the past few years. I was looking at a V-12 about twenty years ago and the price was in the 80's. Last year I was looking at one, also a V-12, in showroom condition and the old guy said he would take the first $32K.

And that's because how many young people today know what a Packard is?

And that is not a typical old man 'those danged kids' rant. It is just a fact. And less demand means a smaller market/lower price.

I like all the old stuff, always have. I also have a fondness for cars of my generation, just like the baby boomers do for muscle cars. I actually know what a lot of this rustic iron is.
I have personally own: 79' Z-28 Camaro, 79' Malibu wagon (my drag car), 88' RX7 10thAE, 73' Datsun 510 wagon. Cars that are becoming more desirable and hard to find everyday. My dad has: 37' Nash business coupe, 46' Plymouth business coupe, 79' Nova, 63' Nova wagon, 73' Honda 600, 74' Honda 600 Sport Coupe (they look like mini coopers) and an old 40's Dodge 3/4 ton truck. We used to have a lot more.

My good friend has a bunch of awesome old American steel too for which we have plans. Ford F-100, Chevy Apache 5 window, Hudson Commodore 6, 51' Packard Cavalier with the big flathead straight-8, and the icing on the cake, a 69' "R" code Mach 1 Mustang, 428ci Super Cobra-Jet, 4spd, drag pack car, shaker hood, the whole works, original car, 30K miles.

I live for this stuff! And I have pretty diverse taste in cars and appreciate them in many forms. Probably not a lot of guys that love American muscle and at the same time love an 80's Japanese sports car with a little 1.3L rotary, It's good to keep this stuff alive!

I bought a '84 911 with the M491 Turbo Look, red/black with 101k for $16k in 2009. Had a bit of a hard time selling for the same price in 2011, when an Euro buyer came and bought it.

Here's the old ad from PP: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/491418-taking-offers-1984-m491-turbo-look-carrera-will-monterey.html

Today? $50k.

Tell me about it!

I wanted to buy an Acura/Honda NSX, but that is not going to happen anymore. Unless I am ok with a 1990 with 200K+ miles for $30K...

This is something I really don't need to hear. I loooove 30's luxury cars and the idea of a V-12 Packard being attainable? ...I'm going to get myself in trouble here at my desk at work.
