Why The Hell Is This Mercedes 190E Ten Times The Price Of A BMW E30 M3?

Mercedes Benz 190 Series Evolution 2 | eBay

Without sounding judgmental . . . the seller is wasting everyone's time. The car didn't (and shouldn't have) sell at $350K and so it's now doubled.

502 built for homologation purposes makes it rare, however these regularly sell for about 100 Euro. So, you could get this car, a BMW E30 Evo III, a Sierra Cosworth and still have money to import them and the first class plane ride to and from Europe. :D

The text of the sale description is also lame.

Homologation?
Pretty fancy word for car buffs. Is that some sort of LGBT thing?

MTI 06-14-2015 01:45 PM

Just a minimum build number to qualify the car. 500 was the magic number for the DTM series.

...missing zeroes?

MTI 06-14-2015 06:48 PM

Ooops, missing "K"

Mölyapina 06-14-2015 08:43 PM

I was like, "I need to start importing these!"

Oh the seller is certainly smoking something good with the pricing. This is at the most a $150k car based on what they usually go for but it sure is nice to look at. My guess is this is just a ploy for free advertising and its working since people are looking at the car and talking about it.

Plus, it's a killer deal if you do buy it for 150k!

It looks like Beverly Hills' answer to the Mitsu Evo...

More along the lines of the Plymouth Superbird that was built for NASCAR super speedways, and the DTM series was once the championship for street car based circuit racing, just like NASCAR. The European version of "Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday" featured Alfa, Ford (Sierra), Audi, BMW, Mercedes, with occasional appearances by Chevrolet (Camaro).
