I thought you were talking about smart features that were on cars from the past.

I was driving a 1950's Hudson, or at least that's what I think it was since this was about 50 years ago, and it had what was called a 'hill-holder' that allowed you to stop on a hill and then, when you started up again, you would not roll backwards.

Pretty advanced stuff for back then.

Yes, messed up this morning, The "from" should have been "for."

Some of the old features I miss in modern cars are wing vent windows, fold down windscreens, bench front seats, front door sills you can actually put your elbow out on.

My 170D has a locking steering column and an electric windshield washer.

My euro w123 wagon lets you put the windows up or down without a key in the ignition if the driver door is open. Initially I thought it was for safety reasons. I've used it a ton as I always forget to check if the rear windows are down so I've begun to wonder if that's what it's for.

My father once owned a '68 Cadillac Fleetwood with eight power vent windows. From a ventilation perspective that car was the cat's ass...

It also had a cruise control system which used a round dial marked with speed increments to set and modify road speed (see upper left illustration):

Vent windows, OTOH were pretty nice. They should bring those back.

A wonder how many parents would want that on their teen driver cars.

I was part of a test project that used an ODBII device to monitor driving. Honestly, the feedback did make me a safer operator of a vehicle. Smoother stop and acceleration, consistent cornering habits. It does work.

My dad owned a 1950's MG sedan with built in electric jacks operated by switches in the glow compartment.

Ooops, looks like they were hydraulic, not electric.

I'm, but not quite that old. But that being said I have driven such cars. It's a full time job with one of those adjustments. And you also have to set them to start and then run around, after you crank it, and adjust them to keep the thing running.

It was a real adventure but it beat walking.

I wonder.... If he had put in a bigger pump could he have boosted it off the ground? It would have been a solid landing.
