Repairs underway!!!

Towed the car to my mechanic today. The only damage, is front bumper cover, Front right control arm, Steering damper, and the steering rod the damp is attached to is bent. Other than that, No other damage!!!!

I decided based on my mechanics recommendation, to replace the left control arm too.

And We foudn the front flex disc is cracked, so we are going to replace that.

Other than that, He is extremely pleased with the condition of the car otherwise.

Price estimate based roughly, around $1000 - $1200 to do the repairs, including the parts. Not too bad.

That should leave me roughly $3500 to do mods.

$700 for wheels - $400-$650 for tires, $400 for shocks. That leaves around $2000 left.

Bodykit - $1000
$painting and install probably another $1000.

I might be cutting it close. I may just get the front and rear of the bodykit and go from there.

I'll keep you all posted.

Alon

The only work in progress pic I have is of the bent parts on the car from the underside. Its even more depressing. Tell ya what, I'll change it to something a little better.

I do want to get them, but I can last for a bit without them. I know they are a good deal for them, but right now I really have to fix the car and all. I need to do the shocks. Rears are totally shot, so thats part of it.

I may not get the replica AMG wheels, I might just spring for the Real deal... that would cut out the bodykit. I am just going to plastic weld the bumper back together, sand and paint, and hope it looks decent enough to drive it for a little while until I can get the kit.

They have been calling me since the day I got the car...

did you see the ad in classified for the w124 sportline front shocks?

that might be worth looking into. if you want oem.

you could pick up the rear from either here or caliber motors. they are a m.b. parts wholesaler, they guarantee at least 20% off list.

caliber might be a place to check a price on those amg wheels, they are in anaheim, ca.

i just got the bilstein h.d.'shocks/struts from "turner motorsport" in amesbury,ma, they had far and away the BEST price on bilsteins. i checked about 20 places.

i know you could order the " bilstein sports"from them. i paid 73.45 for rear and 130.65 for front struts.

NO MORE HARASSMENT ON YOUR EURO LIGHTS!!!!

someday [?]

Well I believe I can get the bilsteins for $398 shipped.

Which is similar to your price you found.

As far as the ones in the classifieds, it is enticing, I will look into it if they are still available.

Since the top priority is get the car on the road again, I have to wait to see how that pans out first before I splurge on the extras.

Wheels and tires are a definate. My Friend owns a Rolls Royce Repair shop and has some good ties with a local mercedes guy, and is checking into wheels and tires for me for a good price. Though I have no problem buying from the rack if need be. I would much rather find it local if possible, but for replica AMG wheels that will look great on the car, and 4 tires, I can spend around $1300. The wheels are $825 for 4 shipped, tires are about $440 shipped. Another $100 lets say for balancing and mounting, thats roughly $1365 for wheels and tires. Another $100 lets say for proper alignment give or take, so lets say $1500.

$1200 for repairs to car.

$400 for shocks

Thats $3100. That leaves $1600 left over.

$1000 for body kit plus lets say $100 shipping... $can I get it painted and mounted for $500 I dunno. So bodykit might be out.

If so, Euro lights possibly at another $400, so thats $3500. There is the money for repairs, and that leaves $1000 from the rental pay out.

If I glue my bumper back together, do some sanding and respray it, it should look decent and all for a bit, then in a month or two, go for the kit. Either way, I can get it all done. But it might take a few months to do the final touch, of the bodykit, and then I will look into the interior two toning I want to do.

I could probably squeeze most of it in, but I would like to try to keep some cash out of it to pay off on my credit cards, and then be able to at least have that debt lowered too.

It just makes sense to try to be as sensible as possible while still getting as much of what I want as soon as possible.

I've been waiting patiently for an update on the status of your car.

The anticipation is killing me.

Any news on where the progress is at?

Any pictures soon?

Apart from The front bumper cover and rear impact strip and slightly bent fender in the front, the car is done mechanically wise.

I'm awaiting the wheels and tires to arrive, then I have to get the car aligned.

After that, I'm going to figure out what to do about the bumper cover and the shocks or the bodykit stuff.

According to my trusted MB tech, there is no damage to the frame itself or the control arm mounting points. He has mounted my wheels and tires that are on the car, although the tires are blown, he took the two good ones, and measured gaps and all, and everything looked fine.

The bluk of the damage was the curb hitting the control arm, and bending it, the steering damper and the steering bar whatever it is called.

Both control arms were replaced, new steering damper and steering bar. New shocks will be put in after I figure my costs.

While he has the car though, I have had him do the fuel filter, change the oil and brake fluid, distributor cap and rotor and flex disks.

The sway bar appears ok, as it is allowed movement, so thats a plus.

I'll keep you posted. Wheels should be in on tuesday from tirerack.
