Manual Transmission Cars

Get 'em while you can.

Blog Post | These Are All The Manual Transmission Cars Available Today | Car Talk

Some quick facts:
  • Out of the 80 some-odd vehicles listed here, 30 percent are American. Two are BUICKS, for crying out loud.
  • Only three vehicles here have manual transmissions in all trims.
  • Only ONE full size pickup has a manual transmission.
  • The vast majority of vehicles listed here suffer a slight fuel mileage penalty for selecting the manual.

In Dumberica.

This is not a complete list. I think some 3-series sedans can also be had without a slushbox. Same with some 5-series.

This being said, the market collapse is a good start this week. Let's hope it leads to government collapse. A toothless NHTSA and Customs agency would allow us to import whatever the hell we want via Mexico, and screw certification.

I just checked BMW's web site. It looks like spark ignited 3-Series can be had with three pedals. No joy on the 5-Series. I've noticed that almost every motorcycle you see for sale has a manual transmission, and no one seems to have a problem with that. I wonder why.

Not another 'manuals are going away' thread.

People don't want them so they companies do not build them. Supply and demand is pretty cut and dry. I really don't see what the big deal is.

If I never had to row another vehicle around ever I'd be a happy camper. Manual transgressions seem to me the equivalent of cap and ball handguns. Amusing anachronisms.

That's OK, not everyone can be perfect.

I still have a 5 speed manual Mercedes and it's still a great drive, even when I use it to commute. I've done paddle shifters on a few other sporty cars, and admire the advancements made in rev matching lately.

This.

I own many manual trans cars (7 in the garage right now actually), and enjoy driving them and will continue to buy them. But auto manufacturers aren't in business to appease a small group of enthusiasts who buy their cars used on the secondary market anyway. It shouldn't be challenging to figure out why they are going away.

I do the Craigslist rideshare thing a few times a year, usually 750 miles up to WA state. It's getting harder and harder to find riders who can drive a stick.

Driving 4 on the floor was mandatory for young men when I was a whippersnapper.

OK...............

One guy owns a 1973 Porsche 911,
with no A/C- a modified 3.2 liter engine, a roll bar, sticky tires, and a 915 manual 5 speed transmission.

Another guy owns a late model boxster, bone stock, with a "tiptronic" auto transmission.

Now,both are Porsche owners but- which one is the "Porsche enthusiast",,,,and which one is the "metro-sexual-moca-foo-foo-latte-sippin pussy"?

I own 11 cars, only 3 of them have auto transmissions.......a 300e, ML350, and a 500e which are the cars my wife drives most of the time.

I would once drive nothing but. Then my left knee gave out and forced me into automatics.

It took a few days before I stopped swinging my hand over to drop it into first. (This was a Porsche) But I got the hang of it.

But I still would rather have a manual when the weather is bad, like snow and ice bad. I just feel like I have more control over the situation.

My BIL in Houston went for a new Boxter S with Chrono Package and PDK. Tried to like it but was back at the dealer in two months for the manual. Took a huge bath on the trade, but is much happier.

My left ankle is going weak faster than my right - I sprained it a few times more often - and when we get heavy rain, especially the first few times in the season, it can be stop and go for an hour or so. Good Lord my ankle starts to hurt.
