In Scca autocross there is a class called CAM, stands for classic American muscle. it is for any muscle car including vettes of a certain age. Lots of Camaros and moostangs. Lots of sliding around, spinning out and roaring v8's. Its fun to listen to and watch and the folks seem to enjoy themselves hugely.

Come watch!

There are two classes that run, GT2 and GT3 maybe? Or 1 and 2. I don't recall. But the "slower" class are production cars. Interesting mix of cars too Jaguar XKRs, BMW M3s, Corvettes etc. The fast class is the same car with different fiberglass.

The noise is there, the faster class was running carb'ed V8s and sounded incredible.

Yes, much of what we call series racing these days at the highest levels has been watered down by basically "slot car" racing, just change the body style. I get that it's safer and cost effective for the sport, but I wonder how much the racing R&D improves the breed. On the powerplant side, at least the engineering work provides us with more hp and fuel efficient cars. Hybrids with turbos are going to end up under the hoods in our future.

Well it was a big jump for nascar to move toward fuel injection only a couple years ago (maybe last year?). I'll give them a few decades before turbos enter in the picture.
