Porsche Cayenne GTS, 6 speed manual

I have a crazy notion to get a Cayenne for about $15K and turn it into a work truck! Oh, I'm whack all right. I don't want an auto trans as I'm afraid one of these with 175K or more are liable to have expensive tranny maintenance ahead.

OTOH, looks like the manual versions are somewhat rare but not significantly more expensive.

The unknown for me is what sort of maintenance surprises I might be looking at.

Uhh never mind on the V10. My reading has it that the only Cayenne model with the 6 spd manual also had a 4.8 V8.

In my dreams, the Mercedes 3.0 diesel V6 found in the 320CDI would seem ideal.

OTOH, if I'm set on that, there's always an Audi Q7 with the 3.0 TDI.

There have been quite a few jeeps offered with mb diesel v6. Driving up in a Porsche to do household repairs and or remodel work might work against you.

Yeah, it could. Unless I told them I got it for $9k not running and fixed it up. The jeep thing might be better. I'll look into it.

After 27 years of professional work, I got laid off in 2009. Spent the next 15 months doing home repair. My rig was a black 1999 Mercedes ML320 that I bought new and always took care of. I got a few comments from customers, but my rates were reasonable and I did good work so everyone was happy.

The van gets about 12 mpg. And it's a drag to drive. I am coming around to realizing the Cayenne would not be a good choice for several reasons, not least of which the 4.8 V8 is not likely to get much better mileage.

But something like an SUV with the 3.0 liter MB diesel could be good. A Sprinter van maybe would work, not sure.

There is a diesel Cayenne. Gets 20/29

The Sprinter is 20 years old this year. New for 2016 model year will be the lowest priced Mercedes, the Metris, which can be configured several ways.
