Man Shoots Self "in Groin" Area

Man shoots self in penis, lies to police: affidavit

When questioned by police, the 43-year-old said he was shot by “a black guy (who) tried to rob” him while he was taking out the trash at his apartment.

Officers went to Watson’s apartment in the 1500 block of East Nye Street to look for evidence and witnesses to corroborate Watson’s story. No evidence of a shooting was found near the dumpster. A witness told officers he heard screams of pain coming from Watson’s apartment about 1 a.m. that morning.

Oh dear. This falls close to my thoughts on carrying a gun: not sure I want to baby-sit some small cannon 24/7 that could shoot my balls off if something goes a li'l bit wrong.

He hardly represents the concealed carry permitted crowd. He lied because he knows he's going to do five years for a felon in possession of a firearm.

That's easy enough to understand.

Thinking that one is unfailingly careful might not be wise. Familiarity breeds contempt. After years of carrying a weapon, could begin to get casual. At any rate, during many hours of carrying a concealed weapon there's a chance it's aiming at you sufficient to make you wish it wasn't in the event of a discharge. Occasion to point the gun at an interloper is going to be rare. Law of averages, you're likely to come out on the short end as the gun is pointed at you most of the time.

The mental almost instantainious impact of what you had done to yourself is something I would personally rather miss. Mind the probable pain.

This guy apparently was in his early forties as well. So young and stupid does not fit well. Hopefully not severe enough to require amputation.

Ha! When I was in the military they used the term "negligent discharge" - kind of reminds me of the good old days!

Well, in his defense, if I was to accidentally shoot myself that is a likely place to get it, just because of the sheer magnitude and the odds
