Chevrolet Dealer Offering One Lease Payment
 

Local newspaper is offering a new Chevrolet lease for 24 months for a one-time payment instead of monthly lease payments. $4,500.00 for a two year lease sound right? Who pays tag, title, and sales tax?

Who pays you back a pro-rated amount of the one-time payment if you total the car two weeks after you take delivery?

Well, I can that that makes sense for them, because they get the money right away, but to the buyer? That money could be making money for you if you paid monthly. This just seems like a way for them to get money faster.

How does an early termination work?

BTW, that would be a $187.50/month payment. I don't know how competitive that is... it depends on the vehicle.

You really need to look into that with the dealer. Many dealers will advertise lower lease payments by tacking on hidden fees etc. on afterward, but some won't.

I have noticed a stronger push locally to get people on shorter term leases. Especially Ford. It makes good business sense. They want them back in two years later and a new lease started. Get them on the hook young and keep them there.

my take on this is this.yrs ago the car manu's wanted to keep the computer codes etc to themselves.they got sued and lost.then recently there was talk that now they were claiming copywrites on the software.so just like microsoft "they" own the software.SO with that IF they lease the car to you they have total control over the software.so you can not alter it whatsoever under lease.so in 2 or 3 yrs when the lease is up they can get the car back lease you a new one junk the old one cutting the supply of used cars,thus making more people look to newer cars.eventually they will have everybody in a lease "perpetual payment".you will go to your grave with a car payment over your head

I can buy a decent used car for that much and have it last longer than two years. Why bother making money for auto workers and parasitic finance scum? Why buy into the above system if you can opt out?

I am getting a few requests from friends to locate good used cars for them. Apparently my take is they are unable to select a good one themselves. Perhaps this is a result of never having worked on cars.

Another thing that is a little concerning is the really younger generation does not seem to understand that in general a car with 50,000 miles is a better bet than one with 200,000.

Usually there will be little if any price spread. So other than they are a little harder to find. I preffer and suggest them. Also I pick brands that have had a pretty consistant history.

For people that cannot pick wisely. Plus have to run to garages for everything. A new car under warranty may actually be a cheaper ownership proposition. The percentage of basically newer cars in service seems higher than ever. I suspect the above may be driving some of this. I do not think the status thing of owning a new car is as strong as it once was either.

In general, but very dependent on the individual car. I'd rather have a W123 with 200,000 miles than a Taurus with 50,000.

I would currently never recommend a used big three car to anyone. They depreciate fast for a good reason though.

"One pays" are nothing new, or all that uncommon. Have several friends who have done one pays with MB-Financial. Can make for some super competitive pricing, if you have the cash.

As the last W123 was made 30 years ago, that may not be all that practical of an approach for most people. But I see where you are coming from.
