I cut my cable today!

I now use a $30 attic-mounted antenna to get the networks for news.
I am not paying for channels i no longer watch (cnn, mtv, cspan, etc)!

After feeding the pig for over 20 years I am now free!!!!

got amazon and netflix for entertainment.
i use the hd antenna in the attic to watch news.

not sure how much the bill will decrease. probably not much but i don't care. i will never ever go back to paid cable.

do the math....average bill over the past 20 years was probably $100 so that is $24000 without compounding. that is equivalent to almost $76000 if you compound at 10% for the 20 years.

that's a lot of MTV and Cspan I didn't watch but paid for. Makes me sick just thinking about it.

I still need cable because Comcast bundles it with the internet. I never use it, I just have basic cable.

Simply putting the calculator to it proves that cable costs a lot of $$$$$. I've been reading that the cable gods are in trouble because Generations X, Y and Millennials don't want to pay for it. Therefore some of the cable companies are coming out with sub $20/month services that play on iPads or iPhones.

I recently dropped the cable bill and installed a free antenna. Between it and a DVD player, all is well. After all, when you purchase cable, you are merely purchasing electrons that are POOF! GONE!!

For the price you pay for cable television, you could acquire a college degree.

Now THAT is a SCARY thought!!!

Some local driver did it yesterday afternoon for us. Takes out phones and internet at the shop. Really brings things to a screeching halt. A workaround has us with basic internet again, but productivity will be down today...

Oh, and cut what little of it we had for the house years ago. Don't miss it. Now we have no means to watch TV, and don't miss it either, save for the occasional Discovery or History channel.

BTW, most cable providers are in the process of killing off the analog signals, so the days of being able to just twist on some coax to the back of the tv are coming to an end. Cable subscribers are going to need a $6/mo box to get basic cable. The rationale is that getting rid of the analog channels frees up bandwidth for digital signals, including internet.

I get digital signal only,I think all went that way 3 years ago here.I scanned for analog and there's none. Yeah those cable bastards are trying to lobby senators to cut all free channels off.

Dish was the final straw, they sucked. Have been on the antenna for several years and haven't paid since. The antenna went out and never bothered to fix it. We had forty-something channels on the antenna. I still watch DVDs sometimes.

Verizon bundles phone tv internet. you're going to pay at least 100$ no matter what. that's the bad news. the good news is my internet speed UL/DL screams, the phone never failed in my area were power outages are frequent.

We did this about a year ago

--and never looked back.
Tons of old movies and some real hidden gems on Youtube, we stream thru a Chromecast and subscribe to Netflix, that's about it.

We started watching Perry Mason Season 1 this week...really a trippy show. Mason's driving a black '57 Ford retractable hardtop and Paul Drake has a Tbird.

Good stuff!

unless you watch a lot of tv/movies, it is still cheaper to pay the $2 or $3 youtube charges to watch a movie a la carte.
