Is Than A Sensor Array or Are You Just Happy to See Me?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2015/10/28/the-army-lost-control-of-a-giant-unmanned-surveillance-blimp/

Known as the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System, or JLENS, the blimp is technically an "aerostat" -- a term for a lighter than air craft tethered to the ground. It's currently on a three year test run to see if it can help detect cruise missiles or enemy aircraft from 10,000 feet above ground.

Hmmm, a whale with a codpiece. Now that's something you don't see every day.

An ideal mission for a squadron of sopwiths to take down.

Im sure there are a few still in inventory left over from the Lafayette Escadrille.

Isn't this thing for detecting incoming military hardware type attacks?

You are perhaps not aware that the Jefferson quote is bogus?

What i find most amusing about this project is they appear to have essentially strapped a powerful radar to a 100+ year old barrage baloon design originally used against biplanes, and it STILL cost 2.7 billion dollars to arrange.
