Time to Stop Drunk Airline Passengers?

Intoxicated Passenger Tries to Open Exit Door Mid-Flight, Airline Says - ABC News

Never fully understood why allowing intoxicated people on board, or serving drinks on flights was a practical idea.

I think that you need to combine about 200 AMPS with an altimeter. Wire the door up so that if anyone touches it when the plane is more than 10 feet off of the ground, the offender sounds like a grasshopper caught in an electric bug zapper...

I got lit on flights, I wasn't that much of a PITA , I don't think. I think it's not so much drunk but more of panic and bad air

Here's what I see on business travel. About the only establishments that are open late at airport departure gates (after 7pm) are the bars, then you board your flight and you can get at least another drink during the flight. If you're arriving at your home airport, driving home is about the equivalent of a night at a bar.

The extreme danger would only be if the door opened outward. The cabin pressure would defeat any attempt with an inward opening door.

Maybe the person thought they where going into into a washroom?

At the expected vertical velocity after that first step, "whizzing into the wind" would be more than just an expression...

Why? I honestly can't see why there would be an issue with locking a bunch of drunks into a couple-thousand-square-foot tube for several hours. What could possibly go wrong?

The drunks I've flown with have been pretty much annoyingly talkative and that's it.
