Kingston new york rustbelt?

I am considering a VW from Kingston with about 50K miles on it. Will it be damaged by rust in the Kingston area?

That 124 I bought from Chicago has rust in places I never had seen before.

Depends on the car, where it was stored, how it was driven. Ask for photos of the underside, in detail if you're not viewing it in person before purchase.

Could be but generally not as bad as Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse/Watertown.

I live in the Hudson Valley, though south of Kingston. It does depend on how it was stored and driven, but in general roads around here have heavy salt three months a year. I live on a dirt road, and they brine it even in summer to hold down dust. In this regard, the only advantage of living further north is that you don't get salt air from the ocean. So don't buy a car from around here unless you can check it for rust.

What year?

Body will probably be fine, fastners will be surface rusted.

I own an 01 jetta spent its whole life in upstate NY before i bought it. Only rust is the usual mk4 fender rot issue.

They are pretty decently rustproofed. The wifes 12 passat has fastner rust but the body is fine. Whole life in CT
