Lucky for the postal lady I was off today

Here I am enjoying a rare weekday off, spending some quality time cleaning up the garage (really needed to after the winter project ). When all of the sudden I hear the sound of repeated attempt at starting an engine. I poke my head out and the US Mail lady is frantically trying to start her jeep.

We're still on the rural route where the mail delivery is out of "personal" vehicles. In my mail lady's case, she drive a very used 1975 mail jeep. She was down at the bend in the road so I make the walk and check things out. One of the retired neighbors is out walking so together we push the jeep to my drive. Quick check shows it is getting fuel, has spark and is not running hot. Not sure just where to look next, something drew me to the single barrel Carter carb. One touch and I knew.

As soon as I touched the body, I knew where the problem was. The carb was loose - I mean if you tried to twist it, every plate shifted. Just then the mail lady's husband pulled up (she'd called on her cell phone) with a nearly empty tool box.

She was getting ready to transfer all the mail into their other car and I told her to wait twenty minutes and she'll be on the road. Quickly assessed the tools needed, retrieved the same from my rollaway and got to it. Yanked the carb, broke it down, cleaned it up with carb cleaner, reassembled and reinstalled. Fifteen minutes of work, I hit the key and the jeep roared to life. Quick check with the vacuum gauge showed a few leak so I replaced both vacuum lines and she was back on her route.

Just my good deed for the day.

Neither rain nor snow nor....

I knew you were really MacGyver!

Same thing happened at the last shindig in Mission Viejo when you replaced my antenae mast.

And I don't remember even having tools!
