So much for new MBs not being able to make it past 100k miles...

Mercedes S550 2007 Clean title and carfax . Tune up done . Best deal

Found this while putzing around on the internet this morning! 220k miles and it's an S-Class! Kinda want to check it out to see how worn out it is.

That also has the engine prone to failure with the balance shaft

The materials used in the interiors are so high quality I doubt you would see much wear. Since rubber quality hasn't been good, it makes sense for all of that to be shot, but I guess for 220k that's an acceptable lifespan.

I was intrigued to notice recently that Consumer Reports rates most of the GLKs, W211s and W204s as above average in reliability, a change from the early 2000s when consistent black marks for most MBs was the norm. It really makes me reconsider a post-facelift W211 wagon daily driver.

I've found that while the W124.W126 era cars are made from high quality material. That does not necessarily translate to reliable or durable. The interior in my W210's have held up much better then any earlier Mercedes that I've owned and the cars that have been toyota reliable (nothing ever seems to break). By contrast, while the W126's feel like bank vaults, they suffer from cracks and creaks in the leather , wood and plastic and have tended to nickel and dime me on a weekly bases.

Every new Mercedes is better then the old one, that's progress.

I've read somewhere that earlier W140's were of a higher quality then the ones build after '95. Any truth to that?

Iv'e had a theory that Mercedes found that original owners of S class cars didn't keep them long enough for the interior to fall apart. So the overall quality of the interiors and other areas was cut to live long enough for the OE to still think of Mercedes as lasting forever.

Then the recession hit in 1998 and people started keeping their cars longer. So S class OE's began to think that the Mercedes was not a long haul quality item. And when the economy began to recover they shopped around. (Also known as: They purchased a Lexus.)

So long term quality had to make a comeback. What good is a reputation that is no longer reliable?

Does that "fire up with a charge" mean you need to jump start it each time?
